I can't really say much right now since I'm running out the door for work, so yeah this should be brief:

I love my metal. Especially the older death metal from the 80s and early 90s like Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, etc. I'm quite partial to just about all forms of metal though, and love me plenty of power metal and nwobhm.

It's quite a shame that most established american bands seem to almost exclusively tour europe nowadays.

Zombie, you should check out the upcoming album from Hell (UK). They're an old 80s nwobhm demo band that was pretty influential, but didn't ever get a full length released. They finally got things in order and are releasing an album, I think you'd enjoy it!

here's a youtube of a song from it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJqCnk3YUC4

Thanks for that, Quack. Good stuff. It's weird to think of how many NWOBHM bands there were out there with really good demos or eps but because they never got signed or never put out an LP no one knows they existed today. There was such a flood of metal music from that counrty in like three years, it's quite amazing.

When my friend met Christopher Guest he asked him about Spinal Tap and got told to fuck off. True story.

Metal is different things to different people.

My favourite Metal band is TOOL but I'd never consider them as 'Heavy metal' and they are even sometimes filed under 'rock'.

I don't think I could label Metallica as heavy metal - hair metal maybe ;) - I just can't take them seriously, especially after some kind of monster / St. Anger. - don't get me started on megadeth ;)

There are bands that I don't really get into but still have respect for - like Alice in chains or Judas Priest.

Motorhead do have more than one song right? If I head ace of spades in a tv show or movie one more time i think my head might just explode!

Based on my Motorhead concert experiences, they don't commonly play that song anymore. Must be trying to distance themselves.

"The Game", entrance Song for WWE Wrestler Triple H comes to my mind.

Anyone knows the movie "Eat the Rich"?

Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Destruction, Death, Cro Mags, Exodus, Sepultura, Kreator, now that is Metal.

You should check out the King Diamond videos on MySpleen.
Oh wait--

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I don't know if anyone is near Toronto here. But this is the best metal festival I have ever heard of existing in North America and it's in my own backyard.

http://www.heavyto.com/

Slayer, Megadeth, Billy Talent, Motorhead, Anthrax, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Rob Zombie, Mastadon, Anvil and Diamond Head all on the same weekend. Plus more. Not bad, eh? $130 for a weekend pass is a pretty fucking sweet deal IMO. I suggest everyone in or near the upper east coast get your ass over here.

Mastodon is the shiiiit, but $130 plus travel is a tad out of my price range.

Just got tickets for Between the Buried & Me in Toledo, and someone I know is in the band opening for them, so hopefully he'll be able to get me backstage, which would rule.  Job for a Cowboy will be there too, never listened to them tho, anyone here?

You just lost again!

Hmmm, if I interpret the rules right, you lost it in the first place, since I was not thinking about The Game, but about the Song which happens to have the title "The Game". But I think knowing about The Game makes us both permanent losers.

BTT: Went to the Paradise Lost concert yesterday. It was awesome.

It is still pretty popular at Demonoid, I still get messages in my email from people making comments every now and then.

plus I look at it this way, not to many people can handle his powerful music style, he is to Heavy for them.

I've just learned from friends of the band that longtime Manowar drummer Scott Columbus killed himself today. He was the only drummer I've heard of who had to have his kit steel-plated in order to hold together under his pounding. RIP bud.

I saw Between the Buried & Me in concert last night and it was amazing.  They played Ants of the Sky, which was worth the price of admission alone.  My ears will ring for days, but damn was it worth it.

Metal Hurlant, yes. In English it was sold as Heavy Metal. But don't bother with the psuedo-sequel movie Heavy Metal 2000, it's pretty crap.

Fun fact, George Lucas was a collector of Heavy Metal/Metal Hurlant, and it's "used universe" as illustrated by artist Moebius was an influence on Star Wars. Ridley Scott also followed the mag and influenced him on Alien, which is one reason why both films have that "lived in" style.
