My sorted list of favorite->"meh" for the ST:TNG movies:

1. First Contact

2. Insurrection

3. Generations

4. Nemesis

Completely agreed on all four.

Then someone needs to do a edit for it, since Paramount looks like it isn't gonna bother releasing the proper versions on Blu-ray.

I watched some of TWOK and the other ST films on SyFy and BBC2 HD, I assume they were HD copies since they looked pretty good.

In terms of that TNG film list I'd  have

1. First Contact

2. Nemesis

3. Insurrection

4. Generations 

But they are all pretty much missable.

Nemesis is much under-rated in my book due to the media deciding that Star Trek wasn't hip any more.

It's practically the same film as Star Trek (2009) and is no less derivative of TWOK than STID is.

First Contact is basically a remake of Aliens (with Picard as Ripley and Data as Newt) which is itself a remake of THEM!

The characters are very off and it further diminished the menace of the Borg by given them a personal voice in the shape of the Cybercontroller... eh... Queen.

Seeing as the Borg were lifted straight out of Doctor Who they should have learned from the later Davros stories that scary impersonal aliens become less scary when they have a mouth piece.

They kept trying to separate the Daleks from their creator but people just came to see him as their leader.

Here it's worse. The Queen is the Borg, the Borg are the Queen and she gives data a blowjob.

That and the Cenobites from Hellraiser.

They too live in Eschereque maze dominated by a giant floating shape which be either cube or a diamond.

A lot of people are very hard on him.

With current trends, things that are old are in again, so you have a lot of people dogging the TNG, DS9, VOY era and singing the wonders of TOS.

I grew up on TNG and the ST films. I always really liked Kirk in the films, and wanted to see the original TV series, but my family didn't have cable and there was no way to watch it. Then one year between seasons of TNG instead of airing TNG reruns they ran episodes of the original series. I was super excited about this and really enjoyed them, but even as a nine or ten year old, I felt the show was really silly and outdated. 

I've never been able to get that into the original series, so I suppose the Rick Berman era Star Trek is my Star Trek. A lot of people would probably respond with, "Boo, you are a real Star Trek fan if you don't think TOS is the best!" if they read me say all of this. Fine, I am not a real Star Trek fan, and I won't claim to be. But I do really enjoy TNG, DS9, bits of Voyager, and the TNG crew films. This whole stretch of time was during Berman's reign as executive producer, so I guess I'm more of a fan of Berman's Star Trek than Roddenberry's.

Wow!  I'm excited about this.  I love all these Star Trek TOS fan projects.  I wish TOS had completed the 5 year mission, and I'm glad to see that we might get to pretend it is completed with these other series.

Spock looks nothing like Spock...really off putting for me even more than the guy playing Chekhov in J.J. ST franchise.

You implying something? The Queen in CEO is more Gigeresque and organic looking, plus lots of cheap space films from that era used sports equipment spray painted to look futuristic.

Just rewatched ST 09 in preparation for getting a STiD next weekend.  Despite some flaws, it's still a fun worthwhile Trek movie.

I just finished watching the three seasons of ST: TOS, and here are my thoughts/comments on the show.


I love Spock. Nimoy is definately the man! =D

The interaction between Kirk-Spock-McCoy is the best/strongest aspect of the series. I don't think the show would have been half as good without them all playing off of one another.

The first season is the strongest season. Maybe the scope seemed bigger, or the character interplay was at its strongest, but the subsequent seasons - especially the third - seemed to be missing a certain spark.

I like how the writers, even with a limited budget/effects, managed to create some really alien aliens on the show. Sure, they were overshadowed by the human/rubber forehead aliens, but I'm glad to see the creators make some effort toward bringing the truly incredible to life.

I wish Grace Lee Whitney had been on the show longer.

Without this show, my favourite scene from The Cable Guy would have never existed.

I think too many episodes were focused on Kirk and his love interest of the week to the detriment of other characters who deserved more exposure/development, like Uhura.

Pretty much all the episodes that focused on Earth-parallel cultures - with the exception of "Miri" - were all bland and only served to draw attention to the show's weakest aspect (the all-too-human aliens).

I think full-blooded Vulcans/Romulans should have been made to look more alien so as to distinguish them from Spock more.

I thought the Starfleet uniforms looked cheap and more effort should have been put into designing them.

I know it wasn't commonplace back in the 60's, but I would have liked to have seen some story/character arcs done on the show. It would have helped in the characterization department and made the show less formulaic.


I'm starting on TNG now. I'm two episodes in already, and so far I haven't seen anything all that interesting. It's too early to give up the ship yet, though, so I'll give it at least half a season before I decide whether or not to bother continuing with it.
