from memory, there isn't a DTS-MA 5.1 English track for it at all. closest to it is aa Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps) on the Australian Blu-ray and a LPCM 2.0 track on the UK disc (be warned though as the first UK BD didn't have the English track, just a dubbed French track which they had to re-press)

there is also a DTS 5.1 track on the Japanese and Korean DVD's but that's the only DTS track released for it.

from what i recall on the other thread, there are a few subtle differences in timing between the two and some alternate footage as well as detailed here

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-Big-Blue-US-edit-1988/post/578675/#TopicPost578675

the titles are also slightly different in both cuts

I got caught in that re-pressing, I have both discs I don't mind as its in my top ten of all time

Would be interested in getting the English DTS track in-sync with the BD Version Longue video. Please shoot me a PM if/when it gets uploaded to sendspace. This is great. I'm glad there's so much interest in this movie.

What is wrong with the UK PCM track?

Probably nothing lol, but a DTS 5.1 track is nice, do you have the PCM track to share? I will add that to if I can get it, but it has to sync to the long version, I am still waiting on English tracks at the moment, other then that I have everything ready to mux and burn.

Thanks

Great would love to have at least 1 English track so I can watch this thing lol, right now it is useless with all the Russian tracks, but the video sure looks damn good!

Wow I am not sure what you are doing lol, it should be real easy to rip just the DTS track from the DVD.

Well what did you mean by rip and recode? I do not want a recode lol, and are you ripping a DVD or Blu-ray? if it is DVD just use DVD Decrypter and just rip the DTS track, actually I use PGCDemux this will do the same thing, and both are freeware and very easy to use.

If you can let me know if you have any luck because if no one can get a English track then this video file is going to get deleted lol, it is useless to me without English.

Thanks

Big thanks out to 'bigrob" for helping me out. Can't believe I finally have the US release with the Conti soundtrack. Love both versions but saw this one first and it stuck. Thanks again....made my day !!

no probs

onky problem i'm finding is that when i've tried to burn it to AVCHD (and Jonno tried with BD), the AR is screwed and it's way to vertically stretched to the point where info is missing at the top and bottom. tried reconfiguring my BD player output as well but no joy

any help?

It's been a while since I looked at the file, but IIRC the AR is fine but the letterboxing has been cropped - most hardware players won't know what to do with the non-standard resolution so they stretch out the existing image to fit 16:9.

UncropMKV will sort this out - it restores the image to true 16x9 (letterboxed, obv.)

Rob, I need to send you a long email! Speak later.

Hi! I know this topic hasn’t been visited for several years, but wondering if anybody was able to successfully get ahold of or put together an HD version of the US cut of The Big Blue (with Bill Conti soundtrack)?

I see a lot of back and forth between some of the users here with talk of places to grab some compiled file, but not sure if those avenues still exist?

I’ve been looking for this movie in this form for many years!

Thanks so much!

Any chance this thread is still going? I saw the US theatrical release (multiple times) in the theater and would pay good money to get an HD version of this cut with the haunting Bill Conti soundtrack.

Agreed! So good. And so rare to find folks who know/care about this. I’m going to try reaching out to some film archive folks…

If you have any luck, please let me know. I’ve been seeking this cut for years. My VHS copy bit the dust a long time ago and I’m just not a fan of the extended version with the Serra soundtrack. I guess that’s because my entire experience had always been with the US release.
I just sat and listened to the Conti theme half a dozen times in a row. To me, it’s pure magic with that black and white opening sequence. It just conveys a completely different vibe. The only place I could find it was YouTube…supposedly the full Conti soundtrack is available at mp3mixx.com for $3.30, but you have to use a credit card and the minimum buy is $30. The site isn’t well reviewed in terms of web safety, which is unfortunate. Blows my mind that the soundtrack was never released on CD. 😦

“Well if it isn’t the little Frenchman. How is the little Frenchman?”
