It looks like the download is not working.  Plus, its a bit confusing trying to translate, register, etc.

Well they have a nice 1080p file there that is 30 GB's but no English, then they have a 11+ GB 720p MKV file that does, this sucks, I want the 1080p file but need the English track, does anyone have the English track if I just grab the 1080p file? if it has enough seeders that is.

Guess I need to get a vhs tape or laser disc and transfer myself??

Can't believe it hasn't been done before.

I guess I understand for artistic reasons, but Besson is a jerk for purposely not allowing Americans that love the American version to have it.

Damn I have not heard of this movie and read at IMDB on it and started grabbing it without even realizing there is a US version, so I am assuming the version I am grabbing is not lol, oh well at least I can still check this out.

Can a US version be made form the longer BD version or is it totally different like Conan lol? and is there an HD version of the US version anywhere? also what are the differences? sorry for all the questions I am new to this movie.

Significant differences in all three versions. I fell in love with the US version (Bill Conti music) so that's what I need!  Also should be like 118 min.

BTW, sorry for starting a new post on this.  Just figured the old one was dead.

i can demux the 5.1 audio from the MKV file i got here from rutracker and dropbox / upload it to you DJ but FYI if your at rutracker it's listed under

Le Grand bleu / The Big Blue (edited version)

and the Bill Conti score track is audio track 4 (the first two being Russain dubs and track 3 being a hybrid of US cut with Eric Serra score)

additionally, i do have the US laserdisc of the US cut as well  (NTSC) with the original Stereo soundtrack

http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/00652/31026/Big-Blue-The-(1988)

I am a massive fan of this film and have multiple DVD and Blu-ray editions of this as well as Laserdiscs, posters and the soundtracks (both Serra and Conti) so if anyone needs anything, give me a shout. I would love to see a 1080p custom Blu-ray of this to complete my collection

I have no idea why people prefer the US version part from the score (even tho Serra's score if one of my favorite of all time) , same with the english dub european version (that extra 45 mins make the movie)

It was better when not cut to shreds and with the multi language soundtrack imo, as you have not seen the film I would recommend you try and watch both.

if your watching it for the first time, go for the longer version. best way to watch the film IMHO and yes whilst Eric serra's score is a beauty, i have to say that Bill Conti did a fine job as well and it does work with the film

So is that the US version? I also have the 30 GB file which I assume is the very long version, and without an English track so I need to find the English track for that as well, damn I would have never grabbed that big ass file knowing it did not have English lol.

EDIT, I am going to watch the long version just as soon as I find an English track for it, really hope there is one there there, and I hope in HD, is the an English DTS-HD MA 45.1 track for the long version somewhere?

also can the US version be cut from the long version or is there different scenes or angles like with our Conan project that need to be edited in?

from memory, there isn't a DTS-MA 5.1 English track for it at all. closest to it is aa Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps) on the Australian Blu-ray and a LPCM 2.0 track on the UK disc (be warned though as the first UK BD didn't have the English track, just a dubbed French track which they had to re-press)

there is also a DTS 5.1 track on the Japanese and Korean DVD's but that's the only DTS track released for it.

from what i recall on the other thread, there are a few subtle differences in timing between the two and some alternate footage as well as detailed here

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-Big-Blue-US-edit-1988/post/578675/#TopicPost578675

the titles are also slightly different in both cuts

OK so it wouldn't be just a simple edit then, there is alternate footage and such, so it is just like our Conan project, thank God for Netflix HD for the alternate cuts for that or it would have never been possible.

Would you happen to have the DTS or DD tracks in English for the long version by any chance? I would hate to think I wasted my time downloading this to not be able to find one lol.

The edited version you mentioned above is that the US version? there are so many different versions there it is hard to tell what is what.

Author

yes, the edited version is the original US theatrical with Bill Conti score and screen credit (it starts with the Weintraub logo as well)

shouldn't be a problem with ripping the dts track off the disc for you. will get that done.

I have these files so far lol,

Le grand bleu BD 30.6 GB................I am guessing this is the long version
The Big Blue-Bill Conti FLAC
Eric Serra - The Big Blue (1988) FLAC
Grand_bleu_720p 5.97 GB................this is the US cut I think
Le.grand.bleu.1988.BDRip.720p.x264-HDCLUB 11.8 GB...............long version as well

I am trying to figure out what all these are lol, I assume I have both versions here, it would be a lot easier if I actually knew this movie, also would be nice to have an LD bit perfect PCM rip of the audio.

Grand_bleu_720p 5.97 GB

this is the US cut, it's the same file name and size as mine.

The two BD rips should be the same (i have the 720p already for portable use)

the two soundtracks as well are different but be advised that there was a two disc release of the Eric Serra score with a whole CD worth of additional music and they have just released this month a new remastered album with some unreleased music and demos. i'm hoping to get this next month

a little bit more info for you

there are actually 4 cuts of the movie

French Theatrical version (134 mins)

European Theatrical Version (119 mins)

US Theatrical Version (118 Mins with recut ending and Bill Conti score)

Version Lounge (extended cut 164 mins)

To many versions lol, so do you have the DTS English track? I would love to get this longer version ready to watch but I need the English track first.

Thanks

Wow, its so cool to see so much interest.  I thought I was all alone.  I agree, if I had seen the Director's Cut first, I'd be a happy camper as they're available everywhere and would probably laugh at the US version.

But I really love Bill Conti's take on it.  Its brilliant.

I haven't seen it in years, so I just want a usable dvd US version.  I've seen a few laser discs for sale and would buy them and a laser disc player just to get my fix!!

Bigrob, pm sent.

Sendspace is the only one I know of.

So this will sync right up with the BD video I just got last night from the ru tracker? the long version?
