I'm sure it will probably be good, but I cant hear that title without thinking of this exchange.

I don't know anything about Oblivion, but I'm definately going to see all of the other movies listed so far, especially Star Trek II 2.
I see what you did there..it should be fun if nothing else but I really hope it isn't Star Trek II 2.
Oblivion looks good. Pacific Rim looks Bad.
But...but... It's mega Robots fighting giant monsters! How can that be bad!?

I don't know if it exactly Sci-Fi, but I can't wait to see this one!

That does sound amazing.
So has anyone seen Oblivion? Care to share your thoughts?
I saw Oblivion over the weekend. I actually liked it quite a bit.
It is a bit derivative, using a number of common scifi tropes we've seen before. But in general it does them either in an interesting way or at least with great visuals that I didn't mind. It also has some rather clunky dialogue at times, but again, nothing so offensive as to ruin my enjoyment.
But the story is really cool and the overall execution is quite good, with several interesting plot twists. The visuals are spectacular and I feel very much worth seeing on the big screen.
Overall this movie has a feel that strongly harkens back to some of the great 60's/70's scifi like Planet of the Apes or Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and I really enjoyed it because of that. It also left me thinking about the story and plot for a couple of days as I realized more details about what actually happened the more I thought about it. I love movies that leave your imagination running after the movie is over and this one did that for me.
I'd give it a solid B, maybe a B+. The one thing I'm not sure about is how well it will hold up to repeat viewings, but my gut says it'll be fun to see again once it hits Netflix.
I enjoyed it overall. The ending was a bit weak me for me though. There's also the fact that this film rips a big idea from another rather recent film that judging from your post I don't think you've seen humdinger. But having seen that film and it being done better there left this movie wanting. The film was a mish mash without a voice of its own but still fun.
What film did it rip off, Tobar?
Is Hollywood running out of interesting movie titles? Because when people mention Oblivion or After Earth, I think of these films...
Where were you in '77?
It's a lot of films...
The Matrix
Planet of the Apes
Independence Day
Moon <--Highly recommended
Trailer for Ender's Game has been released.
Haven't read the book so I'm avoiding the Ender thread.

I've seen all of those, of course. But you seemed to be indicating that there is one recent film in particular that it rips a big idea off of.

Since only one of those films is recent, I have to assume I know which one you are talking about, and have a pretty good idea of what aspect of that film it must be that they steal barrow from. Interesting. But potentially really lame.
For anyone who hasn't seen Moon, do yourself a favor, and go see it. I can pretty much promise you that it'll be much better than any sci-fi film coming to theaters in 2013.
Come on Ducan Jones! The world of cinema needs you to get on with those other two sci-fi flicks taking place in Moon's universe you've talked about. At least then crappy, lesser, yet much bigger budget sci-fi flicks like Oblivion will have better material to rip off.

Well, his wife has got cancer so he's helping her out with that. And Mute is now going to be a graphic novel from what I've read

Yeah not convinced by Pacific Rim. Big Robots remind of Power Rangers and not a fan of Godzilla type monsters. So whatever. Elysium looks promising. Thought District 9 was cool, it was different.
A trailer for Gravity has just been released.
Scary. Also reminds me of Marooned. (Which came out before the real life events of Apollo 13.) Interesting this is coming out after the shuttle was retired.

Yes, this movie looks to play on every fear of space I've ever had. Great.

D: Aaaaaaaaagh that made me INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE
but I KIND OF want to see it
AAAAGH
I love how we all have the same reaction, admission of terror, then desire to see it.

Saw the trailer in 3D last night. It was a lot more intense.

I find it very amusing that the actor's name who is playing Harrison Ford's character's aid in the film is Han Soto!

I would liked to have seen Harrison's face when he introduced himself. =P
Saw the trailer for World War Z for the second time today. I am convinced that it is a film about some phenomena that turns groups of humans into living tidal waves.
It looks ridiculous. Every scene with "zombies" in it just depict clearly CG people weirdly and unnaturally pouring over edges and falling out of things. It is a shame. An appropriately R rated zombie movie (or maybe TV mini series) that follows the documentary nature of the book could have really been something. This feels like I Am Legend all over again, a fun and somewhat unique story adapted into a throw away big budget picture.
A trailer for Europa Report has been released.
I hope Europa Report is good but the trailer gives off a 'Prometheus' sort of vibe.
