Many people who would be interested in any of those already had Ady's work before they got myspleen accounts, whereas Harmy's DE2.1 was first released on there.

BTW. I know that the v2.5 release is seriously delayed but school work sort of piled up on me and I haven't really had time to do any work on SW and probably won't for at least the following two weeks. Sorry about that.

Yeah, there is a team called negative1 I think working on it, I haven't seen any caps it but the one Harmy just posted looks great

Hey Harmy,

Just clarifying - will the bluray release of 2.5 feature differences from 2.1, or is it simply the addition of menus and extras?

If there aren't any changes being implemented, I was just wondering if you would release a 16 GB m2ts. I've been waiting to show this off until it got its highest bitrate encode, and since the the full blu release is still a ways off, I thought that would be a good in between for now.

Love everything I've seen on this project, what you've done is amazing!

4/5: Adywan

There is at least one change from 2.1 to 2.5 that I know of, probably more.

Except for the lack of any fine detail, yeah it looks amazing. What a shame.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I wouldn't be so negative about it - it does look pretty great, considering it's a non-professional scan of a theatrical print. And this is a yet unrestored frame - a little sharpening would go a long way to reveal some more detail - but my point was that it's naturally just not gonna beat a scan of the o-neg.

As for a 16GB m2ts - unfortunatelly, it's not that easy either - there are still one or two tweaks I want to do and it takes ages to render and I'll need to spot check it and stuff.

And after all that, he can fix the Holiday Special. :D

It's already been done: CLICK

With all the bad stuff being cut out, run time came down considerably though.

Does anyone have this to share considering the file was removed?

Without Rifftrax it is not as good, though, do you not agree, friend?

No, that would be a horrible indicator (Comparing it to the Special Edition(s)). A good indication would be if the same was true on an equivalent site that I had heard of before I visited these forums, and that's popular. Like TPB.

TPB has Despecialized at the very bottom of 2nd page. Still impressive for a fan edit/restoration, but it's not showing there is some magically impressive demand for it over the official release.

But yea, if you exclude the majority of people interested in Star Wars released distributed via P2P methods, and instead focus only on people who are interested non-Special Edition stuff, great indicator.

There's no fair way to indicate what they want since most people that comfortably choose the official release probably aren't informed of the options they can pick from outside of what's commercially available in front of them or don't bother thinking this far into it only looking at the debate as entirely superficial compared to what they get a kick out of.

I can't imagine anyone that would side with the official release after witnessing what we've seen here except for ya know, G.L.

I'm not reading into it too much. I still doubt there would be a dramatic preference to either if there was a Blade Runner style box set release.  Either way, I find it more impressive that Despecialized has more seeds than the GOUT release.

hey, i know im sort of late to the party, but i just found these yesterday and i just had to sign up to say thank you so much for all of your work.

seriously...i really cannot begin to express how much i appreciate your effort.

i know im very young in terms of star wars fans, but i consider one of my greatest blessing in life that my family purchased the star wars remasters when i was 8 years old in 1995...and not the special editions in 1997.  anyway, ever since ive had to either deal with the 2005 dvds or the absolutely tattered vhs copies ive been watching for almost 20 years.

thank you so much for giving me another (and infinitely better) option.

We are all in Harmy's debt for his amazing efforts preserving our beloved trilogy... was just watching Empire last night and still can't believe how great it looks and sounds.

I finally figured out how to add a track to an AVCHD disc. I had to sacrifice a track everytime but I now have the despecialized editions of the whole trilogy in French/English AVCHDs. Thank you Harmy, can't wait to have the trilogy on Blu-ray even if I know it'll be several years until we get it.

Please bear with me if I tend to get too excited about anything or say too much, I have issues.

Since this thread is 358 pages long...

Can someone tell me what's the best quality for those edits available at the moment? I got some 7 GB 720p versions and I'd like to know if there is something better than that.

Oh and BTW - GREAT JOB!!!

The Despecialized Editions were mentioned briefly on this weeks episode of the giant bombcast when they were talking about EA making star wars games. They made some comments about obsessed fans on message boards but I don't mind we are a little easy to make fun of if it's all in jest. Checkout the podcast those guys are funny

Harmy,

I saw Star Wars at a drive-in theater in 1977. My daughter, who will be turning 8 in a couple of months, just watched Star Wars (DeEd v2.1) for the first time. She said she loved it. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to share this piece of my childhood with her.

It really moves me to hear that, dude. Truly. One of the main reasons I made the DeEd was to be able to show Star Wars to my little brother when he's old enough (which he will be pretty soon) and maybe one day to my kids (although I'm sincerely hoping that if/when I have kids there'll be an even better version to show them - like a 4K scan of the reassembled ON, though that's probably just wishful thinking) so the fact that the DeEd's being used to introduce Star Wars to the new generation really makes me happy :-)

In other news, I have finished all the changes planned for v2.5 (there are very few) but I still have a lot of school work to do, most of which requires me to use my computer, so right now, I can't have it bogged down by rendering for two days plus. But hopefully, I will catch a break soon and will be able to move on to authoring the BD disc. I also still don't have any of the lossless audio tracks except for h_h's 5.1.

I've got the Molly Sync for 85 and the Synced Digital Rip of the Theatrical mix. I'm at University as well and we have a dead drop for files so I could upload those on Monday. (GMT+12).

this is more what I was looking for. To be honest, at first some of the shots on the left look "more correct" than those on the right which often seem too yellow or green tinted.

But again, that's probably because I'm used to seeing the THX colored version which had the best contrast levels of any transfer.

Seeing an older transfer with level adjustment so it doesn't look so murky really brings out an alternate view of how the film could or should look.

reading this thread has also helped sort through what might have been the original look
