Yeh, this was discussed a long time ago. I went through and watched everything in depth to see what could be added, but then realised that nothing needs to be added. The Imperial fleet are long gone by the time Luke and the last few stragglers leave. Vader is after the Falcon and we see that they are pursuing Han & co. Vader and the other ships are there too. Vader isn't bothered about defeating the Rebels but only interested in getting Luke. He knows that capturing the Falcon is the key to ensnaring his son or that Luke may be onboard the Falcon. So Vader and the fleet blockade are gone, enabling Luke's easy escape.
What about adding in a scene where some Star Destroyers attack Bright Hope. BH is the last ship seen leaving as Luke gets ready to leave. More info is here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bright_Hope#Battle_of_Hoth
You don't have to show that much, just do something like this:
The ships takes of (img 1), we see a closer shot of the ship (img 2), a Star Destroyer fires on it (img 3). We then cut to Luke's X-Wing leaving the planet. I think we shouldn't get to see what happen to BH, but if you want to, then it's fine by me.
They gave the transport a name? Oh god. And people wonder why i hate the EU and completely disregard anything to do with the EU for my edits ;)
But seriously, we already have a scene that shows a transport escaping. The film doesn't need another one. Adding in scenes just for the hell of it or to show something we don't really need to see completely destroys the flow of the film. You only have to look at the added scenes of Vader flying to his shuttle to see just how adding wrong something like that is.
