Maybe when the Jedi suspected he may have something to do with it, a quick blood test (as Qui-Gon did with Anakin) to test his midichlorian (wince. Hate typing that word) count would've been revealing? My, his count is just as high as Yoda's. Hmm now there's a thing. No they was all too dumb to even think of it.
