Don't forget the Rancor will be in ROTJ:R which is great stop motion animation

The Rancor wasn't stop motion. It was a rod puppet filmed at a high framerate then slowed down to 24fps to give it mass

My Bad,

It has a stop motion quality about it though especially when it eats the gamorrean guard and snaps the bone in it's jaws I wonder if those scenes were done slightly differently?... Anyway now you have put me right it does seem like it is a different technique but parts of it do feel a little different to the technique you mention of high frame slowed.

I knew the stop motion effects were good in ESB but I never heard the term go-motion before which is the new techniques of adding motion blur to improve the quality of the stop motion either by flicking the model or creating vibration on the surface it was being shot on or the computer controlled rod puppet... I was even more surprised to learn Rick Baker help set up the creature shop with Phil Tippett

this would seem to be the downfall of the wampa stop motion video no go-motion technique was used but it sounds like quite a difficult process to do the go-motion that was in ESB replicated but stop motion and adding the go-motion blur in after effects would be good enough probably but only at a distance.

theres a good interview with phil tippeett on it here
