I thought everyone knew Al-Qaeda was a character from Jungle Book.

I'm pretty sure we swore an oath to her in the Cub Scouts.

it is not just differing opinions.   It is criticizing me for 'daring' to think it possible that Al Qaeda did this.    Zombie84 argued that 911 was just one time thing and that "Al Qaeda hasn't attacked us in 12 years",when Al Qaeda has attacked us and other countries multiple times, threaten to do so again, and multiple would be attacks from Al Qaeda on American  continue to be thwarted.   Just this week an Al Qaeda linked attack on a Canada train was stopped.

As for the conspiracy crap, I wasn't 100% serious about wanting Alex Jones locked up, although I really can't stand him.   I find these conspiracy theorists very offensive.   They besmirch my country with no real proof.    They don't care about these attacks, it is all a game to them.   And I've had it with them.

I stopped reading it after Adywans first post when I reread it before my last post, just now I read more, and the discussion goes on for longer than I thought it did. It is stupid, especially since the OP asked for people's thoughts on who it might have been. You merely said that would be your guess. Hardly anything harmful, considering Al Qaeda is a terrorist organization that prides itself for killing civilians, they are more than fair game.

I've known a few conspiracy theory types, and it is true, it is kind of a game to them. They're disaster junkies looking to connect the dots in everything, like some puzzle. But, that doesn't mean they don't care about the deaths that are happening, or don't have the same feelings of shock and disgust as you do about these violent situations. They just attribute the cause to a different source than you do, and jump to conclusions. The ones who think these are false flags are pretty disgusted and pissed off over them.

Of course, you have those others who think these are faked and that kids didn't actually die. Maybe this is just their way of coping with these horrible realities. Choosing believe in a fantasy world where an evil government is faking this stuff to control us, over a world where someone might randomly kill a bunch of our kids for no reason and never explains why.

I think that period of the thread was more like the one where I described the slightly more X-files style of conspiracy theorist as possessing a different flavour of unsubstantiated belief to the religious types.

Here the comparison was between two flavours of speculation after a newsworthy event.

Warb assuming it was the wolf from Jungle Book is no different from pointing out what could be a hole in the 'official story'.

It only becomes an issue when people grandstand one way or another.

There is a lot of unnecessary offense taken here sometimes.

I doubt if this thread gets much readers in the constantly bombed to bits places in the world which spawn the small number of 'killing passerby' clubs nor do I believe many actual victims will be reading or their families but our rubber skinned lizard overlords are definitely linked in.

That's why I'm here folks.

it does when they start coming up with their stupid conspiracy theories before the bodies are even cold.  And that is exactly what happened in this case.

to say they jump to conclusions, is a massive understate.

Although no one thinks of them as such, I say they are bigots.   They are bigoted against government/ the establishment.    Hence, their judgements when it comes to placing blame is clouded and prejudice.

**sigh**

of course it doesn't have to a Muslim terrorist.   I was making a guess, not a conclusion.   btw, why does it have to be an American Christian?  It could be an America Jew or an American atheist or an American of some other religion.   Or it could be someone from England or France or N. Korea.   Who the heck knows.

I also said this:

Warbler said:

But again let's stress, that this needs to be fully and fairly investigated.   Of course it is possible that Al Qaeda had nothing to do with this.   Let this be fully investigated and see what the evidence shows.  I am fully open to the possibility that Al Qaeda is totally innocent of this.

that really sound all that defensive?

I think it was Ender that became defensive about the White Christian stuff.   But it does seem odd to me that with no evidence or anything, it was wrong and racist to blame a terrorist organization, but ok to blame White Christians.

Warbler, I said 9/11 was isolated when it came to American soil. It is. Even though foreign embassies have had attacks committed against them, as far as United States citizens living in the borders of the United States, 9/11 was a one-time deal. That's a fact. It happened once, over a decade ago. Teenage kids have now grown up that you can have an intelligent conversation with who have never known what it is like to experience a time when Al Queda was an aggressor. Get over 9/11. There are over 70,000 people killed in a mild genocide in Syria over the past year and a half that is the worst tragedy since Rwanda that requires your more immediate outrage and attention. If 9/11 fills you with rage, Boston makes you upset, then Syria should give you a full blown stroke. Unless you feel "they don't count" then all of this needs to be put into perspective. In the list of world tragedy's, 9/11 is a fart.

Taunting him by calling him an Al Qaeda sympathizer like this is a very poor move. I agree that people pick on you man, but it's hard to sympathize when you react like this.

Anyway, here's the thoughts of someone who was SEVEN when 9/11 happened. I get that it was a tragedy. Hell, my aunt worked in the second building (and somehow survived.) The thing that matters now though? That day, nobody was from the South - or the Left Coast - or New England, or whatever. We were all American. Even though this event happened in New York, we felt it all the way in California.

And that patriotic spirit is totally fucked now. We need to still think like that, no matter what kind of tragedy ends up sparking it. Now, I don't mean the Team America attitude of FUCK YEAH. I mean the fact that it was a rude awakening that brought people together.

So in that sense, I won't forget that 9/11 made me an American instead of a Californian. But dwelling on it won't do us any good either.

It's 100% fact, whether you like it or not. Kids aren't going to know about an embassy attack halfway around the world. The last time Al Queda struck the United States was 12 years ago.

Again, keep things in perspective. That was a long time ago and there have been hundreds of thousands of homicides of innocent people in the United States since then. If the homicide rate in the United States ever went down to 3000 people a year it would practically be considered world peace. It's the inability to move beyond the tragedy of one afternoon that has created a whole new set of problems that really don't need to exist.

That's not a fact. Not too many years before 9/11 there was a botched attempt at bombing the World Trade Center via a truck loaded with explosives in the parking garage. Only a small handful of people were killed, but over a thousand were injured. Not isolated.

I very much agree with this.

I didn't live in America at the time of 9/11, or the few years preceding and following it, and I've always had a really hard time relating to Americans on it. I remember the event even put an end to my email correspondences with my friends in the US (all of which I've never reconnected with), right after this happened every email I got was so filled with hatred and rage, I just stopped emailing them back. It was this ignorant disdain for all things non-American, especially eastern, and it was really dumb sounding and annoying. Lots of ragging on the French too.

Perhaps you had to have been there. I don't think I'll ever be able to understand the rage Americans have when they speak about 9/11. It was horrific, but so few people died, so many violent acts have happened before and since that have claimed so many more innocent lives (including our stupid wars) and we forget about them moments after hearing about them.

How is that bullshit? It is true. You're not still pissed off about Pearl Harbor, are you, Warb? Someone who was five when 9/11 happened, is sixteen. Ten year olds at the time are now of legal drinking age.

I work with kids in these age ranges. None of them talk about Al Qaeda or 9/11. A lot don't even really remember much of the events. When the Boston Marathon bombing happened, the first thing they thought of wasn't "OMG! Islamic terrorists!" It was, "Crap, another psycho!"

There are over 70,000 people killed in a mild genocide in Syria over the past year and a half that is the worst tragedy since Rwanda that requires your more immediate outrage and attention.

you don't think I care about what is happening in Syria?  you are sadly mistaken.

He isn't saying you don't care, he is saying that 9/11 was pushing twelve years ago and you are still enraged and freaked out by it, while things like the events in Syria are easily a multitude more horrific, but it isn't near as big of a deal to you as 9/11.

But obviously, if someone is murdered on a doorstep on the other side of town, or in another state, the other side of the continent, or in another country, it doesn't have near the impact on you as someone murdered on your own doorstep. Zombie is kind of ignoring this phenomena.

If 9/11 fills you with rage, Boston makes you upset, then Syria should give you a full blown stroke. Unless you feel "they don't count" then all of this needs to be put into perspective.

zombie84 said: In the list of world tragedy's, 9/11 is a fart.

go fuck yourself.  why don't you go out and by yourself an Al Qaeda tee-shirt and ball cap.

I am putting you on ignore.   I am done talking with you.

Shit, Warb.

I apologize to zombie84 and the rest of the forum for losing my temper last night.    I especially apologize for calling him an Al Qaeda sympathizer.    I am taking him off ignore and deleting my offensive comments.

Teenage kids have now grown up that you can have an intelligent conversation with who have never known what it is like to experience a time when Al Queda was an aggressor.

that is 1000000000000% bullshit.

It's 100% fact, whether you like it or not. Kids aren't going to know about an embassy attack halfway around the world. The last time Al Queda struck the United States was 12 years ago.

that is incorrect.   Maybe they haven't struck in the US in 12 years, but they have killed Americans since then.   Also multiple attempts at attacking America in American have been thwarted.  Al Qaeda is still trying to kill Americans and innocents of other Nations and is still an aggressor.

Again, keep things in perspective. That was a long time ago and there have been hundreds of thousands of homicides of innocent people in the United States since then. If the homicide rate in the United States ever went down to 3000 people a year it would practically be considered world peace.

yeah I more than 3000 people are murdered each every year, but what doesn't happen every year is people hijacking planes full of innocent people and ramming them into buildings full of innocent, killing 3000 innocent people.

It's the inability to move beyond the tragedy of one afternoon that has created a whole new set of problems that really don't need to exist.

well I am really sorry for getting enraged when 3000 Americans get murdered.  And I am so sorry my country went after the murderers.

not.

Anyway, here's the thoughts of someone who was SEVEN when 9/11 happened.

wow,  you make me feel so old.

bkev said:

I agree completely here.

But dwelling on it won't do us any good either.

maybe I do dwell on it too much, but I can't help it.  The images of that day are burned into my mind.

I didn't live in America at the time of 9/11, or the few years preceding and following it, and I've always had a really hard time relating to Americans on it.

this I do not understand.   Although you weren't in the country at the time, you were an American at the time, correct?   How would where you physically were at the time, effect how you feel about 911?

CP3S said:

I remember the event even put an end to my email correspondences with my friends in the US (all of which I've never reconnected with)

sorry to here that.

CP3S said:

, right after this happened every email I got was so filled with hatred and rage, I just stopped emailing them back.

what is wrong with hatred and rage at the people who did 911?

CP3S said:

It was this ignorant disdain for all things non-American, especially eastern,

did you mean middle eastern?  I could understand your complaints if they were saying bigoted things.

CP3S said:

and it was really dumb sounding and annoying. Lots of ragging on the French too.

well, the French do look down their noses at us.

CP3S said:

Perhaps you had to have been there. I don't think I'll ever be able to understand the rage Americans have when they speak about 9/11.

I don't know how you couldn't.

CP3S said:

It was horrific, but so few people died,

ok, CP3S, you need to explain this.  so few people????????????????????

CP3S said:

so many violent acts have happened before and since that have claimed so many more innocent lives (including our stupid wars)

could have sworn there was time when you didn't feel the wars were stupid.   I hate war, but the people that did 911 needed to be brought to justice.   At least the wars rid us of these guys:

I mean you have to admit it is good thing these guys are no longer alive.

CP3S said:

and we forget about them moments after hearing about them.

I haven't forgotten about the deaths in the wars and tragedies since 911.
