OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL I liked it well more than expected. Great art and cinematography, fine 3D and, above all, the basic story structure was fantastic. OTOH, the script, while quite good, could have used some punching up. More wisecracks from MonkeyPal, more boisterousness and clever turns of phrase from Oz, and a bit less subdued Theodora in the first half would have helped. For performances, Glinda and RW were terrific, MonkeyPal and ChinaGirl were spot on. MK was subdued for awhile, but I think that was a creative decision to make her seem more lost and lonely and heartbroken for greater contrast to the Wicked Witch. JF was better than expected, though not my first choice for such an enthusiastically flim-flammy con artist. Oz is a very tough cast. Their first chioce, Downey, I think would have had a tough time with that part. JF was all right and even good in some places. On the whole, worthwhile. I even wouldn't mind seeing a sequel.
