I've just finished downloading Farsight's Anamorphic Return of the Jedi.

First impressions:

It looks about as nice as you can expect an Anamorphic version made from from a non anamorphic, analog source to look. It's been my experience with the Anamorphic versions of the trilogy that they alwways tend to look soft. This is an unavoidable side effect of converting a non anamorphic source into anamorphic. That being said, this "problem" is more noticeable if you're watching the dvd on a standard 4:3 TV set, as opposed to a 16:9 TV. On my 21" Trinitron, the movie looks soft, on my 16:9 34" HD, it looks considerably better, though still on the softish side.

Sound:

It sounds really nice. It's especially nice to have the AC-3 track on this one.

Glitches or errors:

There's only one problem that I've come across thus far, and that's subtitles. The subtitles have been redone, which is to be expected. However, some of them are missing. Notably, when 3PO and R2 deliver the message, Jabba's line "I like Captain Solo where he is" (or something to that effect) is missing. Also, on some players (like the panasonic 5 disc progressive scan player hooked up to the 16:9 TV) the subtitles don't come up by default, you have to select them to turn them on. Not a huge issue, but kind of annoying.

Overall, it's a very nice version of Jedi. I certainly prefer it to the other Anamorphic version available. There aren't any menus or extras, but that's no biggee, especially when you've exchanged them for better sound and a higher bitrate on the image. All it needs is that one missing subtitle fixed.
