To really understand the Fett/Fan relationship you'd have had to have been there back in the late seventies waiting for news about what is going to happen next when this interesting character with a history built into his look arrived on the scene.
He was billed as an enigma who might save the galaxy or destroy it.
He was very cool in ESB and died a comedy slapstick death in a move that sums up everything that is wrong about ROTJ.
Fett either needs something legitimate to do in ROTJ and survive or needs cutting from the film.
George seems to revel in farting in the face of fans by turning beloved characters into comedy turns.
I can't see the point of a 'revenge' showdown between Han and Fett, it's just cheap like every Batman film killing off a major villain.
I don't think it's cheap at all. It makes the most sense for Fett's character, and it gives Han his bad-ass moment. It just makes sense, and it'd be so satisfying. I mean, really. Five-year old me would have a shitfit if Han and Fett dueled in a mexican stand-off.
