Question about time.

I know this is strange but its been bugging me for some time.

On a stop watch you have minutes and seconds and les than seconds

I know there are 60

seconds in a minute but what are there 60 of in a second?

What do you call that?

It gets increasingly weird after seconds. Interesting to learn it's been almost a gigasecond since Return of The Jedi was released. ;)

On a related subject, anybody ever tune in the atomic clock broadcast on shortwave in the days before your PC was around to set the time?

Where were you in '77?

No, but I'm curious now. How did it work? Did you tune in a frequency on the radio and wait for a beep? What if I wanted to do that now, is it still possible?

I suppose  60th;s of a second. will work.
I can start and stop my stop watch  in 19 (60th;s of a second)

Any way if you would like to know what brought this  up, I was on you tube and saw this
Game Theory: How Fast is Sonic the Hedgehog?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze_uxxFJTvE
And will they basically said sonic never brakes the sound barrier in the games.
They roughly measure how long the first act of Green hill zone is and said that the world record
Speed run of the first act was 0 minutes and 25 seconds. And that was not fast enough to brake the sound barrier. Not even close. And if Sonic broke the sound barrier the first game would be over in under a minute. Now that made sense but it was a little sad to here. But then I thought if the game was that fast, it would be to fast to play. What if the time on the screen was in slow motion, and what looked like minutes and seconds on the game timer ware actually seconds and 60th’s of a seconds in the world of the game. That may actually brake the sound barrier, or at least come closer to it.
Still do not like 60th of a second, maybe for the purpose of this I can call it, A (Sonic second)?

You tuned in and waited for the beep to set your clock manually.

Still sounds the same after all these years. Surprised Ben Burtt never used it, as there are some sound effects recorded off a shortwave radio in Star Wars.

There used to be a number my Dad would dial up the atomic clock using a modem to set the PC clock in the pre internet days.

Many modern timepieces set themselves automatically to the signal these days.

Listen, listen, there are no measurements in infinity. You humans have got such limited little minds, I don't know why I like you so much.

Are you coming on to me?  I need to drink more than you seem to think before I'm anyone's!

If you're referring to values below seconds on a stopwatch, check and see if they're resetting to 00 at 59 or 99. If 99, as is usual, that's milliseconds.

Sorry, I just don't want to let what we've built up crumble to dust.

Sounds like centiseconds to me

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

It's a shame Frink didn't pick up on this line (or perhaps thought it too creepy to continue that train of thought). :(

If you think I'm going to lay with you on the grass and let the hours pass, you've got another thing coming.

Leo, let me tell you something.  If I only had a potion, some magical lotion that could stop this, I would stop this, I would set the wheels in motion.

You're making me sick, Mr. Frink, and you know how hard it is for me to shake the disease.  It takes a lot of my time in situations like these.
