Still being worked on. Only updates you should take serious should be from Phineas, Mitch or myself or found on the official FB page, SupermanII.com/forum or Superman1978.com. Anything said by anyone else is rumor. The project is still a go. Some new and better sources have been donated to the editor and some of the previous finished scenes are being reworked.

I think Chance Bartels has a 16mm print of the complete extended cut. I used to have a VHS tape of his letterbox LD/16mm telecine hybrid.

Have you tried contacting him?

That's good. But is his print also missing the Jor-El first night scene? (I can't remember if his hybrid even had that scene - and even if it did, some of the deleted scenes in his version may have been derived from the KCOP broadcast or something...)

Man...why can't WB just release the deleted scenes along with a definitive Blu-ray. :(

An HD off the 16mm, it would be an even bigger undertaking than what we're doing now... to photograph each frame off the print and restore it one at a time. Besides, the 16mm does not contain every deleted scene, with the most important scene of all, Jor-El talks to Superman after the first night of rescues, missing from it.

Look at the THX 1138 preservations (Italian Cut available, see 1st post) thread http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/THX-1138-preservations-Italian-Cut-available-see-1st-post/topic/11741/ for the work and drawbacks of 16mm transfer -- from page 48, to the end result on page 53, for this faded film recovery ...

... and an HD transfer solution that promises to by-pass the problems that needed to be overcome. Begin here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/THX-1138-preservations-Italian-Cut-available-see-1st-post/post/626373/#TopicPost626373

Yeah but these 16mm tv prints for superman  were never meant to be seen theatrically.  They are the pan and scan tv cut in mono sound done on a filmchain system.

Higher quality scans would show the defects much more prominently and i don't think these guys are doing a frame by frame restore, if they are the sequels to man of steel will be out before its released.

If there's a 16mm source, couldn't an HD version be created?

I'm sure when AMC showed it it was in HD, but it's starting to look like nobody recorded it.

Very much looking forward to this. I was afraid it had been abandoned but I'm glad to hear it's still happening.

I've heard nothing about this supposed AMC showing.

I posted about it on the previous page, a while back: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Superman-The-Movie-The-KCOP-cut/post/513441/#TopicPost513441

They were showing a marathon, with what appears to have been this "KCOP" extended cut of Superman in letterbox widescreen, then the Donner cut of Superman 2, Superman Returns, and then Superman 3.

it would be cool if AMC shows a superman marathon like that again with the man of steel out in theaters now.

I am certain that AMC did not show the full extended cut. If they did, someone else would have mentioned it; everything talking about that marathon was about the fact that Superman II was the Donner cut. Nobody ever said anything of the first film being the KCOP cut.

My guess is that they showed the 151-minute extended restored version from 2001, which had a few of the additional scenes put back in. Thus, you'd remember things like Superman going through Luthor's gauntlet.

Most of the deleted scenes have never even been released as extras on DVD/Blu-ray, I just cannot believe it was the full 3-hour TV cut remastered. For one thing, it would have only had 22 minutes of commercials for a 3 1/2 hour timeslot. No way would they put in that few ads.

On the other hand, I would absolutely believe AMC running a 2 1/2 hour movie with an hour of commercials.

Yeah, Idunno...I watched all of the deleted scenes clips from their website, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing them all on TV.

But I could be wrong. Or maybe they were just slightly longer in the clips.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I wasn't sure though, and I couldn't find any actual information on it.
