I currently have a similar project but I'm a newb to all this. I have already captured bit perfect PCM audio from my laserdisc. Can you recommend a program (preferably freeware) that does an excellent job of upsampling 44.1kHz to 48kHz?

I'm probably not the right guy to ask but DJ said a couple audiophile friends of his has told him that the upsampling came out best when he used the software Izotope RX 2 with no dithering or noise shaping or anything applied.

Thanks for the info. :)

I'm also restoring the PCM mono soundtrack to the Italian BD video of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly but I'll start another thread about this project.

Brilliant! Can't wait to see that thread eurospec19... Combining the PCM mono with the Italian BD video will simply blow the US release out of the water, more so than as of current.

Thanks for your support, Falcon.

I'm going to need it as this is my 1st project and I have much to learn.

Stay tuned...

Would I be able to get a copy of the laserdisc mono track. I've got the U.K. blu and I would like to sync them up together? Many thanks :)

A bit of a side project here, but hopefully an interesting one!

It appears that the theatrical 5.1 mix for Terminator 2 was briefly available on the first issue R1 DVD (which wasn't around long before the marvellous special edition came along). See the second post here (from the very knowledgeable Disclord): http://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1409

Since I was assembling a disc that included the theatrical cut of the film, I thought I'd look at syncing that mix to BD video. This involved using Womble, a rather blunt tool for such a job, but it meant that I could nip'n'tuck the track without reencoding. The result is a 5.1 AC-3 which matches the theatrical cut as found on the Skynet BD - not the greatest source for video, but by far the most common source for that cut.

I haven't studied the track for all of its differences with the later Rydstrom mix, but it certainly has a different feel. PM me if you'd like to try it out.

I am in the process of collecting and comparing each LD release of T2, my holy grail is to get close to the CDS track.

I could not get the first 3 PCM tracks to sync when i tried it way back when the UK first came out, have things changed now?

I can sync it for a clip, or for half the movie but it drifts after that

I  have a copy of the PCM LD track and it is in sync with the remastered 2013  Terminator release. In fact, I just watched it today. Let me know if you want a copy.

So, since there's a good version of the original soundtrack, any chance for someone to edit the color to the new blu-ray and bring the picture back to its original timing?

I am redoing the audio because I have learned a lot since my first attempt, this new software and method will make this sound way, way better, hell I re did the Conan audio and it was a huge difference! so yes there will be an all new PCM track and we are going to re do the color timing on the new remastered BD as well as T2, so stay tuned.

Thanks for all the interest guys!

Can you please elaborate on your new and improved method? What software are you using now?

I'd like to improve the quality of my PCM audio track, but don't know how to go about doing it properly.

I haven't even watched by sync'ed up copy all the way through yet.  I think I'll wait for this new and improved version.  Great work, thanks.

I just could not get the audio to sync at all with the UK one, it would drift

I managed to get the last LD I needed and the Dvd is in the post, I will check them all for the original T2 track and open a new thread

PM sent.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Thanks,

Anyone know of a simple program GUI based that I can just snip the mgm logo off the UK version?

And how much to cut?

I have changed the thread title because we are doing much more then just T1 original audio, we are going to work on both Terminator and Terminator 2, and a big thanks to Jonno for the Terminator 2 Theatrical CDS audio!

Sources for Terminator will be the new remastered BD and the LD bit perfect rip of the original PCM audio.

Sources for Terminator 2 will be the superior video from the Japanese SteelBook(137 min Theatrical version) and the above mentioned CDS audio from Jonno.

I have to admit if there weren't so many differences from the mono to the 5.1 on Terminator I would love to edit the HD audio like I have done for other projects to add back in the wimpy sounding weapons, by any chance is there a complete list of all the differences between the mono and 5.1?

Thanks

So should I lock my thread now?

It is the best we have to work with correct? or do you know of a better quality version to work with for T2? we looked a lot over and this is the version we thought looked the best.

Thoughts?

There is not much in it really, do you have access to a large encode of the JP version?

Just the BD's, but even reading at Blu-ray forum it seems everyone agrees that the Japanese version is better then the rest, we just need the best release for our source, we can do the rest lol.

Blu-ray forum ugh! sorry, they are sheep on the whole.

But yes is is the best of a bad bunch but not by a lot, I would aim for a 1:1 encode on the video tho as all the advantages will be lost if not.

Have you tried syncing the "CDS" track yet? I cannot for the life of me get it to lock in. I am in the process of ripping the Dolby surround track from the first LD

Do not worry at all about the video, it will look good, we will lose nothing in what we do.

I have not tried yet but it is all ready to go.

Here is a little teaser to show what direction we are going with on the color, and here is a quote form You_Too on the balance of the remastered version for all of those that think it is right lol.

"Btw here's a frame comparison for those who think the remaster is nicely balanced! This is before Arnold first appears, when the screen goes white.
In the remaster they've made the screen go green instead."

here is the screen to go with that quote, followed by where we are at.

*removed old screens, do not want to get confused here lol.*
