Hopefully almost the last bit of off topic from me: is getting a separate ADSL modem not an option?  The Tomato USB firmware, removable antenna, flash, RAM and amount of connections it can sustain are pretty desirable features on the RT-N16, though the X3000 doesn't look like a shabby hybrid of gigabit, N and ADSL...

We can move this conversation to a PM if you wish.

Wow, this gives me some inspiration on how to one day approach this with my future children... I've been wondering about it for a while, really hate dubs and haven't been wanting to introduce such things to them in what I feel is sub-par/wrong version.

I was totally trying not to further add to this thread derail.  Did everyone notice how good I was being?  For like half an hour, even.  Nevertheless, don't get too excited about the prospect of your kid liking subbed movies.  My oldest boy also didn't mind watching (coincidentally!) subbed Kiki when he was three.  Now he's five and he has no patience at all for it.  Perhaps because he can read now, but not fast enough to keep up, and the subs are frustrating for him.

What is good one day can be bad the next, that's parenthood.  Also don't get excited about your toddler who's not at all afraid of swimming, or who likes eating vegetables.  Things change.  Every day!  Then they change back again just to throw you off.

Thanks for the advise, it is so noted.  And while it will be a great challenge to keep them into original language shows (hopefully they'll at least not develop nostalgia for just the dub), I hope they'll never grow out of original version Star Wars (and thus, I bring this back to topic).

Hey Harmy, it appears that part28 of VDeEdv1.0 "is currently unavailable" on the paradox. Any way to re-up or could it be a location thing (I'm in California)? All of the other parts downloaded just fine :)

EDIT:

Oh der, looks like others are having the same trouble with V file 28 on the paradox thread.  Not a big issue for me now since I'm now on myspleen, and I understand you are pretty much absolved of your responsibility for v1.0 of ESB & RotJ. Totally understandable. Just wish (for the other poor bastards) that someone would upload on a reputable host. I shall try...

OK, now, before I can start building the BD, I need to put together all the material that will go on it - that is the video (I will use v2.0 MKV's video as a temp for now) all the audio tracks (so I'll need the other lossless audio tracks asap) and all the bonus material.

Just finished watching v2.1 and it made me feel like a kid again. A huge thanks to Harmy and everyone that contributed to this project. Looking forward to the BD!

Harmy what are you thinking of doing for the special features? Can we see the menu designs?

So apparently v2.1 is just fine and there won't be a v2.5.  Is that a safe assumption?

Not a bid deal, but the chapters seem to be randomly chosen and not mirrored to the official dvd/blu-ray as they were on 2.0. Hopefully this will be changed on the blu-ray release.

EDIT: Just noticed the 2.0 AVCHD has the same chapters as 2.1, however the mkv of 2.0 had better placed chapters - odd.

EDIT 2: I know I've said it before, but just wanted to say thanks again to Harmy!

I've got young kids, so while I prefer to watch everything subbed (and I'm even one of those snooty ones who also prefers the literal subs on the Japanese discs), I'll be watching with dubs exclusively for many, many years and they may grow on me.  FWIW I do like one dub--the French dub for Porco Rosso is phenomenally good.  I often choose to watch that movie dubbed in French with English subs (I don't know any French).  Okay, back on-topic ;)

@Catbus

oh cool Ill check out that french dub. sorry for being a little off topic there. couldn't resist.

I'm not sure if it exists anywhere outside the Newsgroups, but I have a copy of Schorman's Digital Capture of the Orginal 77 Mix. On top of that, I have converted the WAV to DTSHD for my own purposes. What would be the best way to pass this on? Or has h_h got this covered with his collection of lossless tracks?

At 42:50 there's  a white ball behind Obi-Wan that looks like it's rolling. Is that in the originals or is it a Special Edition addition?

Does anyone know anything about this?

Did this ever get answered? If not, nope, that's always been there :)

Doing everything I possibly can to keep from clicking on the 'spleen link - trying to keep myself pure for the BD release.  Do have to say, Harmy, that at least from the screenshot comparison package, you frigging NAILED the Dune Sea stuff - they pop now in a way that 2.0 didn't, but without crushing blacks or blowing the whites the way LFL graded the DVD/BD.  Amazing work, and can't imagine how you pulled off getting Ben's cloak out of that goddamn magenta cast it ended up with on the official versions.

Aw, screw it, I couldn't resist  - Dling 2.1 now.  BTW, have invites if anyone needs one.

It's there in the SE, at least. I don't have GOUT to check against, but I assume it was there in the original film. It's pretty amazing what tiny details people notice!

Anyway I got it pretty darn quick through the 'Spleen torrent. Woo! Seeding now. Huge thanks Harmy! Also thanks to chyron8472 for putting it on MySpleen, and to all who are seeding. Now to set aside time to give it a proper viewing!

Just watched the 2.0 again and I noticed something during the opening crawl.  It seems as though the stars disappear early and reappear late as the scroll passes over them.  Almost as if the text has some kind of opaque black border.

Is this correct?  I've never noticed it before in any other version but I'm not all that observant most of the time :)

Bump, anyone?

Sorry, must have missed that. I saw a high def scan of the original crawl and the black outline is very much there.

Thanks for checking.  Must be the years I spent watching old fuzzy VHS recordings.

I went back and noticed the stars disappearing early in Puggo Grande as well, but they seemed to actually get brighter if they were on the edge of a letter and as they appeared right at the bottom of each letter (strangely no spacing below).  Not sure what would cause such a thing to happen, but I'm done obsessing over titles now.

I can't wait to enjoy 2.1, thank you so much for all your hard work Harmy and to everyone else in the community that helped out with this amazing project!!!

Uh, I would have had it this morning if Windows wasn't a dork and automatically downloaded updates and restarted my computer in the middle of the night! Is this a common thing? I have a mac, but needed to bootcamp into windows for work and began downloading the film in the background. At least OS x has the common curtosy to not reboot unless you ask it to!!

Rant over- I can't wait to come back home and watch it!!

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

OK Harmy, two VERY important things.

First, I'm assuming you're privy to all of this news surrounding JJ Abrams helming the next SW movie? Not sure how realistic this is but I would wholeheartedly nominate you to be an ambassador or technical consultant to him concerning true-to-1977 projections of SW, ESB & RotJ for his technical and STORY reference. I've actually worked for Bad Robot briefly (on a two-day shoot, haha) and apparently JJ's a cool guy (and IMHO did a fairly solid job injecting SW energy into Star Trek). I'm sure that with his means he could arrange a private screening of the original 35mm prints but most likely these'd have degraded too much, right? FOR GOD'S SAKE yours seem like the closest authentically (color/story/editing/effects) to the originals, which is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL for developing the direction and story for succeeding Star Wars movies. The original trilogy was a revolution in cinema and sci-fi. There's no doubt that the sequel trilogy will make anywhere near of an impact, but it should push the envelop in similar ways for today that GOUT did for its era, whilst staying true to GOUT. I mean, am I right or...am I RIGHT? JJ should at least be aware of the existence of your despecialized editions.

Second, actually no where near as important. Is there a DVD-5 version of Return of the Jedi hosted anywhere? I can't seem to find it on the spleen or the paradox.

I think is mainly due to the brightness of the text washing out the starfield that it is composited over, and the telecine gear (and reduction prints) not having the dynamic range to cope with it.

Yes it is a standard, really annoying feature of Windows, it has screwed up many an automated astrophotograpy session as well. It can be turned off via the control panel.

Had a quick flick through this last night and I must say how great it looks and sounds well done Harmy and co.

My media player is having a bit of trouble playing the paradox download so will get it again via the spleen today (will let it seed as long as I can) and will be giving it a spin on the projector tonight so will upload a few pictures, maybe a quick video of it on a big screen if anyone's interested.

Is that because it's in iso format? i extracted the files from the iso with winrar then made a mkv with mkvmerge.

Great job Harmy, looking forward to the Blu-Ray.

Author

That's one reason why I extracted the files from the ISO before uploading to MySpleen. I tried drag-dropping the ISO directly into VLC and it didn't work. Then I tried extracting the ISO with 7-Zip and it didn't work (7-Zip's FAQ says that might be due to a corrupted header). So, I mounted the ISO to a drive letter, and the mounted image worked in VLC, so I extracted the files from the mount.

Also, as I said, most other DEED AVCHDs on the spleen are not in ISO format, and the Bluray most certainly will not be in an ISO either.

That's strange - I've used the exact same settings for the AVCHD as for v2.0 and it came out quite a bit smaller (by like 600MB). This on one hand means, that I'll be able to add a few extra audio or subtitle tracks but it's a bit worrying.

Harmy, I ran v2.1 through Handbrake (while, for the audio, only using track 1) at the same settings that I had used for v2.0 and the resultant M4V came out larger.

v2.0 is 2.54GB; v2.1 is 2.58GB

You have version 2.5 already? huh.
