Disney...money...new films...
Sorry, must have been dreaming about something else. Carry on.

timdiggerm And wouldn't there have been a sandstorm scene in ROTJ? or B-Wings?
So, the "artist" was limited by problems. I can see the rough cut perspective.
Only if every movie ever is now just a rough cut.
What about those other rough cuts, the '81, '97 and '04 cuts? It's incredibly sad that some people really have bought those words from Lucas, brainwashed or lack of intelligence to understand how the film industry works? But who can blame them, there are new generations of kids who actually grow up with this new stuff, next year Hayden Christensen have been part of Return of the Jedi for 10 years, think about that.
I just hope a new law comes into place in US so that other films can avoid the sad fate that happened to Star Wars should there be an copyright holder going wacko in the future.
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Hayden Christensen is a part of Return of the Jedi. Hayden Christensen has always been a part of Return of the Jedi.

The whole reason for the original human Jabba being cut has been murky since 1983, when that pesky storyboard of uncertain vintage appeared in the Making of a Saga documentary.
Here's how Gary Kurtz describe the reason for the Jabba scene being jettisoned back in 2002:
"...we had technical difficulties with that scene. We shot it over three times for camera problems, focus problems, and film stock problem, and then abandoned it because we ran out of time. We just said, "Well, the bulk of the information that comes across in that scene, about Jabba threatening Han Solo and wanting his money and all of that, we could get across in the scene in the Cantina, with Greedo." It's basically the same kind of information. So we just added some bits to the Greedo scene to make it a little bit longer that gets across that information, and then jettisoned that other scene. This all happened while we were shooting. It wasn't done in the cutting room."

Interesting. For an abandoned scene there was certainly enough to salvage for the SE. Pity we'll probably never get a complete sequence with human Jabba to compare.
What gets weird is the workprint version of the cantina scene has different Greedo dialog, (as spoken on set) yet the Marvel comic is closer to the final film version. Could they have gone back to an earlier script draft when it came down to creating Greedo's english subtitles in post production?
Where were you in '77?
Well, if the change happened during shooting and not in editing, Marvel could have easily got the revised version of the script for the scene in time to change the dialog.

Been a while since I last saw the workprint footage so I may be wrong but they basically added information we otherwise would've gotten in the Jabba scene in post. The marvel comic is close to the film but you can easily see the final touches made from a direct comparison;
Marvel comic:
Greedo: "Going somewhere, Solo?"
Han: "Matter of fact, I was just going to see your boss. Tell Jabba I have his money."
Greedo: "That's what you said yesterday. Now it's too late."
Han: "But I've really got the money this time!"
Greedo: "Then hand it over."
Han: "I haven't got it on me. You tell Jabba..."
Greedo: "Jabba would rather have your ship, I think."
Han: "Over my dead body!"
Greedo: "That’s the idea, Solo. Now will you come outside with me or must I finish it in..."
Film:
Greedo: "Going somewhere, Solo?"
Han: "Yes, Greedo. As a matter of fact, I was just going to see your boss. Tell Jabba that I've got his money."
Greedo: "It’s too late. You should have paid him when you had the chance. Jabba’s put a price on your head so large every bounty hunter in the galaxy will be looking for you... I’m lucky I found you first."
Han: "Yeah, but this time I got the money."
Greedo: "If you give it to me, I might forget I found you."
Han: "I don't have it with me. Tell Jabba..."
Greedo: "Jabba’s through with you. He has no time for smugglers who drop their shipments at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser."
Han: "Even I get boarded sometimes. Do you think I had a choice?" (lifted directly from discarded Jabba scene)
Greedo: "You can tell that to Jabba. He may only take your ship."
Han: "Over my dead body."
Greedo: "That’s the idea. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time."
Han: "Yes, I'll bet you have."
When Jabba in the SE threaten Han with; "I'll put a price on your head so big you won't be able to go near a civilized system." it doesn't fit that well with the earlier statement from Greedo.
We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Wow, I never noticed this line used the audio clip from the Jabba scene... and it just works edited to have Han say it off screen.
And with that, gentlemen, Carrie Fisher officially confirms her reprisal of the role.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
I keep telling you guys she is the main villain but none of you believe me.
Will she wear that bikini again?
Also, how reliable is Carrie to confirm such news? This happened a few days prior.

“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
It's a film they can edit that stuff out.
Just look at Oliver Reed.
Persistently good on film something else on live television.
Disney would say something either way? A "we can neither confirm or deny" at least?
And Carrie is just fine when she takes her meds. Easy to forget on cruise ship.
Where were you in '77?
LOL I was kidding about the meds. Perhaps it's time to incorporate more smileys and winkies into my posting repertoire.
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
Nothing confirmed.
A rep for Fisher said nothing has been confirmed. LucasFilm, which made the original “Star Wars” films, said, “At this time we are not ready to make any announcements about casting because, as Yoda said, ‘Always in motion is the future.’”
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
Could this be crystal skull in space? We have the three main heroes back for the sequel, but thirty years older!
At least Han Solo is not Indiana Jones.

No problem! I get annoyed with the TMZization of celebrity news coverage these days though.

Funnily enough I happened upon that link when I heard about Carrie's interview, went to Google News, and searched "Carrie Fisher". Most of the articles were about her having a 'bipolar incident'. Celebrity news indeed is strange, which is why I have never felt an inkling of desire to follow it.
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
What bugs me is even CNN looks to TMZ as a source these days. TMZ isn't much better than the sleazy tabloids of the past, except you can't line a birdcage with them.
IIRC, there is mention in Once Upon a Galaxy of a gossip reporter conning their way onto the Empire set to interview Carrie, They were more interested in digging dirt on her mom than asking anything about the movie.
Once the movie gets underway, there were probably be paparazzi under every manhole cover, and people diving through Disney's dumpsters in the dead of night. Mr. Abrams will have his work cut out for him keeping the same veil of secrecy over the film he's managed to do with the Star Trek sequel.
Where were you in '77?
That's one thing I really like about Abrams. I miss those times when you didn't know much going into a movie, other than having seen the trailer or maybe reading a short article. There was just such a sense of wonder and discovery.
I regret spoiling myself on pretty much everything going into ROTS. It was still a great experience (at the time...), but I think I could have enjoyed that film so much more if I didn't spoil myself silly with every tidbit and set shot in the months leading up to it.
Information naturally flows much more freely and quickly in the digital age, but even then it just seems like sometimes there are too many leaks, big and small.
Indeed, good luck to Mr. Abrams. I like how he's handled the ST2 buzz, so I think he'll know what to expect with SW.
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
I don't mind being teased with a pic or two. The first Empire pic I recall seeing was Mark Hamill on some weird beast on a snowy landscape.
I just realized that in my position, it will much harder to avoid spoilers around here than in the past.
As I've said before, the moment a photo of Mark or someone else in costume gets out, the site that posts it will melt from the load. ;)
Where were you in '77?
Yea a picture here or there is fine.

I believe it.
Because that's exactly what I would do if I was in charge of this trilogy. And let's face it: since Carrie Fisher have lost her sex appeal making her the "bad guy" (à la Palpatine) would be logical. Just a Mon Monthma kinda role would be a bit of a letdown if you have to use Carrie Fisher.

She has not. :-P
Lucas says that Mark, Carrie, and Harrison were already on board before they sold to Disney.
