The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Being a diehard dyed-in-the-wool Spidey fan, I really really wanted to like this film more than I did. Unfortunately, I just wasn't very impressed. I didn't like Garfield's portrayal of Peter, I didn't buy into the Peter-Gwen romance, disliked the Lizard's design, and felt too many characters - Connors, Uncle Ben, Captain Stacy, etc. - weren't developed enough.
The Raimi films were flawed - very, very flawed - but at the end of the day I can watch them (the first two, anyway) and still feel like I am watching a Spider-Man film, however unorthodox most of the characterization may be. I didn't feel anything like that with this film. I felt like I watched a film about a superpowered skater boy running around in a knockoff Spidey costume.
I enjoyed it enough, though, to give the inevitable sequel a chance. Hopefully it'll be a better experience.
5/10
