I've managed to sort out the problem i was having with capturing the images. Seems like Vegas didn't like my HueyPro calibration software on the new machine and was applying filters that were disabled. Here is a screenshot of Luke during his conversation with Obi-Wan. As you can see the skin tones are not as saturated as they looked on the comparisons
As for any photos of what snow covered areas look like at night, well you have to take into consideration the white balance the camera would impose when taking the picture and lighting conditions. But i films blue has always been used to give the appearance of night. This scene was indeed blue on the original prints. I guess we are so use to seeing the OT from our VHS/ laserdisc days where prints had already started to fade. Puggo's 16mm are very good examples of how the films originally looked and ESB was in fact a very blue film. although the picture was never a blue ash out like the 2004 DVDs have lead us to believe.
