Ever since the 70's we have all been hoping for to see Han Solo as a 70 year old man...

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Mark Hamill has to be in it, he has not been signed as far as i know.

That and Disney has to address the  release of the oot.  And i will pay to see it.  That and it better not be an absolute cgi turkey like 1-3.

If E7 is going to end with Han & Leia getting married I'm going to puke.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

So what do you guys think about this:
http://geektyrant.com/news/2013/2/14/ewan-mcgregors-obi-wan-spin-off-star-wars-movie-idea.html/

I think if done right it could be quite cool. Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan was one of the best (or more like least embarrassing) parts of the PT and with a good script this could be a cool SW western :-)

I'm fed up with the Jedi's because of the Prequels, I'm hoping that the spin-offs would involve smugglers & bounty hunters rather than humourless swordsmen......but.....if done right I'd prefer to see Obi-Wan struggling to keep the remaining Jedi alive than see a Yoda movie.......dull

I guess I just grew up. Accepted that SW '77 is too obscure and niche to do what we expect.

Anyone else still slightly hung up on the fact that Episode VII won't (as of now) open with the 20th Century Fox fanfare?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Disney should just give Fox theatrical distribution rights to the ST in exchange for getting home video rights to the existing movies (including EpIV) right away instead of waiting until 2021 (and until forever in the case of EpIV). The majority of the theatrical gross would still be Lucasfilm's (and therefore Disney's) anyway, not Fox's. Fox would merely get a small percentage of the gross in exchange for distributing, just as they did on Empire, Jedi and the prequels. The big difference this time is that Disney could just hold on to the rights for everything else (dvd/blu-ray, download, streaming, tv broadcast).

I would be cool with the planned spinoffs not having the fanfare (maybe just opening with the Lucasfilm logo and that's it), but if you're gonna have "Episode VII" in the title of your movie, you'd better open it right.

I appreciate we can play this

game forever but it would be nicer to see the blu-ray we all want to purchase.

Hmm...might see that one soon though (on DVD).

I suspect we'll get over it if the movie is good. But seeing the Disney castle, and maybe the Bad Robot logo - is that a possibility? - yeah, weird. I get excited by the Fox fanfare because of Star Wars, not having it will be lacking.

The blue elephant in the room.

I feel pretty much the same way.

The release of the OOT is the most important thing to me.

IF Disney does that right, then I might go and see any new Star Wars movies with Ford AND Hamill........but it's pretty much a given that any sequels made 30+ years after the originals are going to be train-wreck crap-fest CGI-turkeys like Indy IV and eps. 1-3.

But, I still went to see Indy IV and eps. 1-3. ;-)

IIRC, Mark has been in the loop since he had lunch with George well before the deal was announced. I'm sure the usual negotiations are going on behind the scenes. We'll know soon enough.

Does Disney ever have a third party distribute their films overseas?

Nice to know someone on the inside is a fan of the originals. :)

Maybe it's a trap, and everyone voting for the OOT release in the poll will be IP-logged and red flagged. ;)

The phrases "cleaned up effects" and "A New Hope" give me some concern about what exactly he would consider a theatrical release, but luckily there's a comments field.  Our fan preservations have raised the bar so high, I have some doubts even an "official" theatrical Blu-ray release could meet that standard.  e.g. if they released A New Hope (Star Wars w/ 1981 crawl/flyover) with the 1993 audio mix and the same unexceptional color timing they used on earlier releases, I'd pass on it and keep watching the Despecialized Edition.  I might go for Empire or Jedi though--I guess it depends how high the bar is for those films by then.

That said, I'd still be in favor of these releases if for nothing other than more raw materials for use in an unofficial preservation.

Interesting. Fox would merely distribute and take their cut if the situation is as it seems, so disney would be handling the actual work, and they have a home video army in place working every day on about a zillion hours of cartoons and movies dating back 75 years anyway. It becomes even more of a no brainer than before. "Hmm, should we prep the Star Wars trilogy this week, or some episode of Davey Crockett from 1953, can't decide."

Nice dig at Crystal Skull.  lets also hope Shia Lebouf is not in episode 7 as Han Solo JR.

And then Han's blaster gets blown off the coat stand by a gust of wind, and just as Mu.. uhm... Han Jr. is trying to pick it up, Han swoops in a grabs it with a smirk, puts it on his head, leaving the church with Leia while the Imperial March is playing into the credits.

Report: Star Wars Episode VII to Focus on Skywalker, Solo Kids

According to veteran Hollywood columnist Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411, Star Wars: Episode VII will be set "some time in the future [after Return of the Jedi]. Han, Princess Leia (with a presumably better hairstyle), and Luke Skywalker will be a lot older. Their children will be the new main characters. RsD2 [sic] and C-3PO will be unchanged, I would guess. since they are not human. But suffice to say, the three main actors are definitely coming back. The bigger question is, which young actors will play their kids?"
