i'm using powerdvd software; it comes with its own codec, and that plays the discs fine on my system.

That's odd ... I tried reinstalling everything (from a clean format of my harddrive) and I started with Cyberlink PowerDVD first, just to see. Did not work

weird. i just checked and it worked for me. are you using the latest version with the patch?

huzzah for archival THEATRICAL OT!!!

Okay, I'm playing with the filter thingy in VirtualDub mod (I hope I don't go blind ), and I was wondering....if I was going to de-interlace, should I do it before or after ITVC? (And if so, what's the best filter to use? And yes, I have read in many places that de-interlacing can cause more problems than it solves. I was just curious.)

Also, how does DECOMB play into this? (Though it appears this is only a Avisynth filter.)

Also, should I convert to 24fps before applying other filters (denoise, dotcrawl, etc?)

Congratulations.

BTW, after watching my 24fps DVD (basic movie only, just trying out my new RW capable player), I noticed that, while most scenes looked really good, scenes with very fast motion (i.e. Tie Fighter and Millenium Falcon flying overhead to DS) looked jerky. Did I do something wrong?

Yes, very true. I tell all my friends getting the offical DVD release, like me, hey the new versions are nice and cool, BUT if you want the OT, the original stuff buy me some DVD-r's and I'll hook you up. I am glad that you guys were all here to help me do that.

I know quite a few people personally who are very interested in me finishing these DVD's.

You don't want to de-interlace if you are aiming for a DVD release. Most de-interlace filters throw away half the information, and interpolate.

What you want to do is to try and reconstitute the original 24fps progressive frames, by doing a true 3:2 pulldown, and fixing any dodgy frames. Then you can encode the DVD as FILM 24fps Progressive, and people with HDTV sets and progressive DVD players will get an awesome experience, and people with normal DVD players and normal TVs will get a normal experience anyway (as their player will turn it back into an interlaced signal for DVD)

Okay, I think I figured out my problem. In addition to telling VDM to do 3-2 IVTC, I was also changing the frame rate from 29.97 to 23.976, which resulted in a 19.18 framerate. OOPS!

Now trying it with no source frame-rate change, and 3-2 IVTC.

+1 for the TR47 set. I just received his "deluxe" 7 disc set (8 discs when including the CD-R with printable artwork), and I have to say that I am very, very pleased. Video and sound quality are extraordinary, and the bonus discs have a lot of great "making of" documentaries (several hours worth, including From Star Wars to Jedi). Plus, it has some deleted scenes (ex. Biggs on Tatooine, Han with girl in the bar) and some cool extras like "Troops," casting outtakes and some other neat extras. I'm very pleased with this set, and will not be buying the official release this fall, since these bonus discs more than make up for any bonus material Lucas is going to include.

hi a seven disc set i have one aswell but its not from tr47 or rikter just wondering could u answer a few questions? how much, are they stil available , dual layer ? audio, ripped form laser disc set? which ? and what specail features sorry man just tell me evreything please

You'll have to contact TR47 for the full features and pricing info (TR47@burntmail.com if I remember right). It's a single layer set, uncompressed digital 2.0 audio from the definitive edition original trilogy laser discs (great sounding through a Pro Logic II receiver!). The only "problem" I've found is that there is a 4-second pause before the "Leia welding scene" in Empire. Otherwise, great video and audio! I haven't gone through all the special features discs, but there is definitly a lot of material in them (mainly various "making-of" documentaries that are not included on the Supplemental Materials 4th disc).

Also, you get a CD-R with tons of disc labels, inserts, and box art. I just spent the last couple of hours printing/cutting these out, and I am VERY happy with my "customized" set: "Faces" box and insert art, original movie poster art for the movie DVD labels, and the new Special Edition art for the Bonus Disc DVD labels (the 3 bonus discs materials match up with the 3 movies). Now I need to find some double DVD cases, instead of storing the bonus discs behind the inserts in sleeves.

I think this is the same 7 disc set that you have - Not dual layer and yes they are LD rips just like yours.

Here's the skinny:
Star Wars Trilogy 7-Disc DVD Set:

- All films on two discs with maximum constant bit-rates of 8-9 MB
- Audio Commentary from the Definitive LD
- Dolby Pro-Logic Soundtrack from the 1995 faces set
- Menus w/ play and commentary options
- Supplemental disc with:
- Definitive LD features (can't find the Ben Burtt and Dennis Muren interviews though)
- From Star Wars to Jedi
- Chapter selection for each film
- ANH: Disc one: 13 Ch. Disc two: 15 Ch. Chapters
- ESB: D1: 19 Ch. D2: 16 Ch.
- ROTJ: D1: 16 Ch. D2: 14 Ch.
-Widescreen

I bet this is the same set ...

I hope to get this in a future trade SO if anyone wants to do a trade - I'll give you 10 DVDr with ANY of my movies for trade for your 7 DVD's

BTW - I have covers for these that I'm still working on - I hope to have them done in about a week!

Okay, I finally did it! I have an EXCELLENT 24fps MPEG of ANH. It's funny, my ealier 19.19 MPEG came out at 3.32 GB with bitrates of 6/3. My new MPEG came out at 2.67 GB with bitrates of 7/3! I'm definitely rerunning it with higher rates, and I will still have room for the PCM soundtrack (and maybe the 5.1 as well... )

Yes, I got to hear myself a few times. ROTJ is my least favorite, but all of them are really awesome and flesh out the CT very nicely, worth the time to listen to.
