Heard about a mod for Doom [old doom] and grabbed a copy. It's called Brutal Doom and it certainly lives up to the name. Not for the faint of heart.

It's a novelty that wears off but it's a good bit of fun. There were moments where i'd actually painted the walls with blood during a firefight, the screen also gets splattered.

The character is much more in the badass / dickhead style ala duke nukem - you can insult monsters verbally or flip them off.

The monters are also a lot more agressive - i saw a demon actually ear a zombie head-to-toe.

There are a fair few improvements and enhancements to the gameplay but in the end it's mainly a splatter-fest.

if you don't mind a bit of gore i'd recommend it for five minutes or so..

That sounds pretty fun. I love Doom, I still play it and it still gets my heart beating in certain places. I usually prefer Quake but the stripped-down, raw gameplay of Doom that turns some people off is what I like about it.

Finally finished Farcry 3. 

pros

- the weapons are a lot of fun. shooting somebody with a flare gun never gets old!

- securing enemy bases

- hunting and crafting

- the glider!

cons

- story is boring and tedious

- quicktime events

- protagonist is a douchebag

1. Thou shall make the game fun.

2. Thou shall not use regenerative health. Health packs are to be used only to add actual tension to the game.

3. Thou shall not have any quick time events.

4. Thou shall make the game look interesting. Greys and browns are not to be used exclusively (unless justified within the story)

5. Thou shall tell a good story within the single-player campaign.

6. Thou shall not base the game solely around the multi-player campaign if the game is to have a single-player campaign also.

7. Thou shall be able to carry more than two weapons at a time.

8. Thou shall be able to aim a weapon without looking down the sights constantly.

9. Thou must tax the player creatively, allowing them to figure things out for themselves. Nothing is better for a player than them wondering 'Where do I have to go now?'

10. Thou shall allow the player the ability to optionally choose to turn off tutorials and pop up indicators at the very start of the game.

I didn't like Halo 4 either.

I've been reading all these terrible reviews for Aliens: Colonial Marines and feeling sad. Not that I should have expected it to be good, but I had a foolish hope.

It's supposed to tie into canon, but I've gathered that

which makes little to no sense.

I think Valve should make one using L4D as a base. Randomly spawning Aliens who are relatively easy to kill, with stronger ones that come by occassionally.
