That's the problem with making Yoda blade reliant.
He is very short.
To engage his foes he either has to bounce around, use the Force to impale them on his saber or just cut them off at the ankle or wear stilts.
One makes Yoda seem too violent and the other two are really silly.
Lucas arguably went for the lesser of two silly.
