Now that George is out of the picture... (now re: Disney!)

... can we write a new petition? The current one is great, but I think it'd be more effective to address LFL (rather than GL himself) and argue that, among other things, a proper restoration of the OT would make good economic sense.

Does anyone agree with me?

George isn't dead, he is still a major voice (if not the major voice) in the company and a new petition would probably result in less 'singers'.

Maybe around 2017 there may be a rational excuse for a petition reboot but currently I think the one we have is still making it's point.

The people drawn to here by publicity from people like Harmy and Ady will lead to more signatures to the current petition (and posts on a nearby thread).

The numbers and the good will combined make a better statement while we still await an official release.

It's been talked about before; there was some talk of redoing the petition after the blu release, but it fell through. It's only a mater of someone actually writing the petition.

He's not really out of the picture.  We'll be lucky if he's out of the picture once he's dead.  I'm willing to bet he'll still be calling the shots as a head in a jar in the year 3000.

Now does this make sense considering the recent news regarding Disney?

Can we start drawing up a new petition here?

They better start that technology quick, otherwise Futurama will be a total sham!

How about we simply focus on getting more signatures for the existing one?

The current number is abysmally low, only 5,000 or so compared to the 30,000 the original petition got back in the dvd era.

I think a new petition would perhaps should just make the business case for an OT release.

Disney doesn't care too much about the artistic argument, but if they thought they could make some bucks doing a hidef OT release then that would be far more likely to sway them than an emotional/artistic plea.

Also important to point out that the work is already done, despite claims to the contrary, many of the worst additions to the OT are over the top of original elements, which had to be scanned to add in the CGI.

If Disney think that money is being left on the table, then they may actually do a release.

I agree. That was the reason I thought a new petition would make sense.

I hadn't signed the current one as I assumed it was out of date, I think many people will be the same.

I just think very few people will sign a petition that is dated 2009 and is aimed at the wrong company.

Might be better to start over with a new petition, with a new angle on it and social media it up to get supporters for a fresh assault.

I concur.  I just thought about posting the same thing today and saw that there is a thread here.

What about aiming it at Kathleen Kennedy?  I'm sure someone like her would realize it's importance and value financially and historically.  Maybe approach Seth Green about it too.  He has George's ear and I'm sure he would a great proponent of the initiative.

EDIT:

Sorry, wrong forum. It's been so long since I've dipped into either of the other Star Wars subforums that I neglected to check them out fully before I wrote this long-ass post.

I would just like to say, though, that I hope George really did sign away everything to Disney, including the rights to any and all versions of the movies.

We'll find out sooner or later.

I think it’s high time to move beyond petitions, try picket lines with signs and T-shirts, outside theaters whenever the next movie hits.
