Yeah, I'll stick with Norton, thanks.  Love live porn.

Never buy Norton. Frink is dead wrong with that. Norton is practically malware itself and won't ever do anything but take your money and slow your computer down; it's considered one of the bigger jokes in the PC world.

This is what any sane person uses.

If you have bigger problems than day-to-day care, MalWareBytes is where you go.

I've had no problems with MSE, yet somehow they failed AV testing and lost certification.

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/microsoft_security_essentials_flunks_av-test_loses_certification419

Yeah, because MSE doesn't really do 0-Day detection like programs that throw out a false positive over everything that could maybe possibly someday be a virus. I don't find the lack of 0-Day "preparedness" a big deal because it's not a big risk that you'll be one of the first people to get a virus on the first day or before it's recognized and definitions are updated.

That added to the fact that MSE is super lightweight to run and updates very quickly when stuff is recognized without raising a false flag over everything you do makes MSE the first choice for anyone I know who does computery stuff seriously.

My students did an activity today called "ALTITUDE and TEMPERATURE."

They read a paragraph about how altitude effects temperature.

Then they graphed Altitude and Temperature for two pairs of cities, each had one with a low altitude, and one with a high altitude.

  • Question 3: What might account for the difference in temperature between these two cities?

70% got it wrong.  One student wrote "20."

Some days I want to bang my head with a hammer.

The spring cleaning has claimed another casualty.

The Return Of The Jedi mug I was given for Christmas smashed after a jar fell on it.

It was too big anyway and I've still got the tin it came in.

Moved into a new apartment with a really cool roommate. Get along really well, have a ton in common, seems like a cool situation. Last night we were watching some TV and he stretched the image out of ratio to fit the screen... Ugh... That is going to be annoying.

Also, I sleep on an inflatable bed for the convenience of moving, since I never stay in one place long. For the last two weeks I've been splitting my time between my girlfriend's place and a friend's sofa while I looked for a new apartment. Somewhere in there my gf borrowed my blow up doll bed (as I affectionately call it, really just a crazy comfortable queen size air mattress) for some friends who were coming to visit. Blew it up for the first time last night, went to bed, and woke up on the floor. After serving me well for three years without the slightest issue, it now has numerous holes in it. Patched three so far, still appears to be losing air. Frustrating.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck!

There's a guy on LDDB who does this with LDs on his 16:9 display and frequently posts images of his setup.

You should ask him: Would you vertically stretch a letterboxed video on a CRT TV to fill the screen?

Wait, don't. I don't want to know the answer and I'm pretty sure you don't want to know it either!

That is unacceptable, either you need to throw him out, or you need to leave.

I've actually become a little desensitized to it. I'm beginning to wonder if some commercials on SD feeds are produced with that stretching in mind actually, considering how weird they tend to look.

I don't care much with TV but I hate hate HATE it with movies.

Oh no !!

At work the other day, two of us were talking about the film  'Ben Hur' and how wide the screen ratio is.

One of the guys listening in says "All I do with films like that, is zoom the picture in to fill the whole screen"!

AArrgghh ! WTF ??

Yeah, I can't stand it either. I mean, don't these people see the proportions get all fucked up? If you're watching a 4:3 Prince video and you "correct" the proportions to 16:9, now you're watching Barry White singing When Doves Cry! It's simple geometry, goddammit!

What would they do if presented with a conundrum like this?

I've only known the guy for a few days, I might break it to him gently sometime. For now I'm not going to mention it.

Sarcasm?

He's really laid back and pretty much exactly what I've been looking for in a roommate, so I think I can deal. It's been really hard for me to find decent people to live with here, he's very chill with me having certain things and doing certain things in the apartment that I couldn't even bring up with previous roommates. The rent split two ways is dirt cheap for such a nice place and location. Plus, he's got a freakin' badass cat! I like having a cat around, but don't want to have to have the worry of having one of my own; I spend too many nights away from home.

Just wish my bed didn't have holes in it... Patched up four already. Hopefully that is all of them. Can't tell if I still hear a slight hissing, or if I am just going crazy from listening for that noise for so many hours. If I am hearing it, I can't locate it for the life of me.

Literally worse than Hitler. I can't believe people would actually do such a thing. Like why would that ever occur to someone?

A little.

I am SO SO sick of getting sick. God dammit. I've been back at school less than a month and this is the second time. I've been taking emergen-c and stuff, so I don't get why this keeps happening to me. My immune system isn't particularly weak, that I know of...

I won an eBay auction for a game, it cost a couple of quid ( 1p for the item but a couple of pounds for the postage) and I got a message from the seller saying she had given the wrong Paypal info.

She has been a seller for a while so it sounded a bit weird.

I looked into the payment and it went through so the other girl has got the money in a Paypal account, I spent a good 40mins trying to get a solution out of the eBay bods and they basically said try and get Paypal to sort it and the Paypal 'resolution' centre is a dumb multi-choice thing which had zero relevance to the situation presented to me.

I've paid my piddly sum to the account supplied if the shoe was on the other foot I would have been too embarrassed to mention the transaction fail and would have posted the item anyway.

I can't shake the suspicion that this young lady just wants the transaction cancelled in the hope she will get more than 1p for the game.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I just fucking hate physical media now. Why, in the holy hell do blu ray discs have to skip too? I adopted the format to avoid to problems I had with DVDs. I feel like I have had several heart attacks just now. It is just the most miserable thing on earth right now. I'm throwing my whole goddamn movie collection and Blu-ray player down the drink now. I won't be able to sleep tonight.

i know this is cliche, but Mondays should be outlawed. The worst shit always seems to happen on those days.

You must take really shitty care of your things if your blu-rays are skipping. I understand you literally have to TRY and damage those bloody things. And if you're throwing your whole collection out, have fun with your old 4:3 P&S tapes derived from beat-up film prints and shitty early restoration techniques. I'm sure they'll love to spend quality time with you again.
