1. In one sentence, what is your description of a villain?

Ambitious, mendacious but flawed.

2. Do you consider yourself a Star Wars fan? On a scale of 1-10, 1 being not a fan at all and 10 being a “super fan”, what would you consider yourself?

In terms of the series as it currently stands I would say about a five but before 1997 I would put myself at an 8.

3. In what order did you first watch the Star Wars films?A. Episodes 4-6 first, then Episodes 1-3 (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith in that order.) B. Episodes 1-3 first, then Episodes 4-6 (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in that order.)

 A

4. Who is your favorite character from the films?

R2-D2

5. Who is your favorite villain from the films?

Princess Leia

6. What is the first thing you think of when you think of your favorite villain from the film?

That awful scene where Lando is trying save his friend, after being forced to betray him to save his city and it's people, is cruelly choked by Chewbecca at the bidding of the twisted Princess. He wants to speak but his life is being choked out of him.

7. If your favorite villain was not the Emperor, what is the first thing you think of when you think of the Emperor?

His heart was in the right place and his plans might have worked if it wasn't for his almost comedic flare for the theatrical. I've suffered from this sort of thing in the past and the future myself.

8. If your favorite villain was not Darth Vader, what is the first thing you think of when you think of Darth Vader?

How does he pee?

Does his bits and pieces slide out of the revolving door thing in his codpiece or is that just where they empty his bag/cannister?

9. What is Senator Palpatine’s motivation for becoming the Emperor?

To strengthen the weak and failing chaos of Galactic Government and to sensibly nationalise commerce.

10. What is Anakin Skywalker’s motivation for becoming Darth Vader?

To break through the glass ceiling that the Jedi council have placed over ex-slaves. To change a galactic government that allows slavery in the outer-rim territories in the first place. To learn the means to save his wife and children from the same fate that befell his mother thanks to the Galactic government and the Jedi leadership. He's a nice guy.

11. Do you feel sympathy for the Emperor?

Of course I do.

12. Why or why not?

He almost unifies the galaxy under a strong leadership and almost leaves it with the legacy of an unassailable defense policy. Ultimately he paid the price for trust. Never trust an underling to die on cue, they always get up at the last minute and shoot you or push you into vortex or throw you down an inexplicably not covered pit of death. With me it's usually girls or insects... insect girls frequently.

13. Do you feel sympathy for Darth Vader?

I did.

14. Why or why not?

Ultimately he ruined it for everyone by getting all dewy eyed and sentimental (you find this with a lot of strong enforcer types as they get older). Snappy dresser though.

15. When the Emperor died in Episode VI, what emotions did you feel, if any?

Hubris... You have an ambitious second in command, you interview his replacement (who just happens to be his son) in the same room as him and a pit of doom.

The writing was on the wall there.

I think he wanted to fail.

All very tragic really but so real. Been there, done that.

16. When Darth Vader died in Episode VI, what emotions did you feel, if any?

Silly old fart!

All that death and destruction for what?

If you are going to torture and kill the populations of entire planets (not to mention kill your friends, choke your wife and chop your kid's hand off) at least become ruler of the galaxy or something.

Bring a bit of peace to the universe to balance out all that upset.

Don't just die on the floor of a disintegrating superweapon like some chump.

17. Do you think the Emperor fits into your description of a villain from question one?

Hands up it fits me too but yes.

18. Why or why not?

He is ambitious and he isn't beyond telling a fib or two or employing a bit of disguise to get the job done but DEATH PIT! HELLO!

19. Do you think Darth Vader fits into your description of a villain from question one?

Yeah.

20. Why or why not?

He is ambitious and isn't beyond telling a fib or two or employing a bit of disguise to get the job done but the Death Star could have deployed plenty of ships to fill the trench from end to end with obstacles but no Vader had to 'have the leader'.

Ultimately his tactics back fired.

When the surprise counter attack came, it came from behind.

If he is old enough to learn this tactic and use it himself he should have prepared for it to be used against himself.

This is why he never became Emperor, it's not enough to have a plan 9 in outer space, you need a plan A through to Z and familiarise yourself with plans 1 to infinity and beyond.
