Yikes...that's a hell of a chore to go through just to play a common video format.  I don't get the appeal (or 'Apple-eal' if you will) of AppleTV.  For the same price you can pick up a halfway decent media streamer that can mount a 3tb drive internally, connect USB3, stream wifi or wired from the home network, doesn't care if you use iTunes or not, AND can cope with virtually every codec ever used (except the original MP4 AVI codec - damn you, DAP MST3K episodes!!!!!  DAAAAAMN YOOOOOOOOO!!!!).  I'll admit I may just not have heard about it, is there something AppleTV actually does that makes it a better choice in any circumstance?

Agreed.  I'm a Mac user...Macbook Pro, iPhone, iPad, but when it came to TV, I passed on the AppleTV and picked up a WDTV Live.  I can connect my 3TB hard drive right to it, still stream from my Mac, and it plays ever video format and codec I've thrown at it, flawlessly (including all of Harmy's masterful releases). 

When ATV has those capabilities, I might switch. But right now even a jailbroken ATV can't compete with the WDTV.

If you don't call it v2.1 or v3.0, then the public is going to be confused where the missing versions are inbetween.

Unless you intend to release lots more versions, I would suggest v3.0 fits in well with the scheme so far for major releases as it's more than a bugfix for wonky audio (v2.1 would have been the audio corrected mkv).

Whatever it ends up being called, it'll be awesome. 2.1 or 2.5 still seem like good ideas that make sense. Agree that a 3.0 would be a little uncalled for. 2.1-2.4 could simply be "internal" revisions that were never released, so a 2.5 makes sense.

For now, we have:
1.0 AVCHD
2.0 AVCHD
2.0 MKV

In the next wave, we'll see whatever first, main, huge, best, "this is it" format, hopefully followed by an AVCHD, as it's still a nice format for various reasons.

All I know, is that I have a blank blu ray just waiting for some very worth data (and wouldn't mind mailing Harmy a few as a thank you)

Yep, that's a lot of data to archive off.. Also, yes, always good to have a couple copies, even though newer blu ray blanks are a little nicer.

2.1/2.0/2.0 seems less confusing to me than 3.0/2.0/2.0.

Many are confused by the current 2.0/1.0/1.0.
