Well if i was an actor which i am not i would rate Richard Donner better than Lucas too, the guy they replaced him with on Superman ruined the series though.
On Star Wars and Empire it was Gary Kurtz who really was the sounding board for the actors, George Lucas was always quiet and never really offered any direction.
