The problem is if you paint out everyone who isn't necessary from TPM you will have almost a blank screen.
Besides there is nothing wrong with whimsy especially in a series like Star Wars.
The promise of the Revisited, it's potential I mean, is to give us the sort of film George 'meant' to make but failed to make.
The character looks okay, he serves some narrative function but it's his personality and vocal ticks that are annoying and actually rather offensive in their Stepin Fetchit stylings.
If Jar-Jar was kept, still did much of the same stuff but was transformed into an endearing character it would keep the intent of the film alive only make functional.
Currently the film is a defined cultural artifact which infamously malfunctions and in his current incarnation Jar-Jar is almost emblematic of that.
If Team Adywan can fix Jar-Jar without cutting him out of the picture it proves they can do almost anything.
