The Criterion Bond commentaries vary in audio quality quite a bit. Some participants sound like they were recorded over the phone, and others sound like vintage interviews repurposed. A couple passages sound like they were recorded outdoors, or in someone's home complete with background noises.

Of course, this was back when they were the only one's doing it, and it was less likely they were going to get everyone in a nice audio booth to sit down and watch the film.

As there's no CX noise reduction, there's also going to be background hiss.
