Here Comes the Boom
I wasn't expecting much, but me and the girlfriend had a good time. It was a nice little film. I was worried that since it was produced by Adam Sandler that it would be stupid, but it was funny when it needed to be funny and sweet when it needed to be sweet.

Finally saw "Silver Streak"!
a thousand balls out of four. :D
True Romance (1993) 9/10 - Don't know why I've never seen this before. Very cool film.
Django (1966) 7/10 - You probably know where this marathon is headed. Decided to watch this film. Honestly pretty good (especially the title credits/song, music, cinematography, action), but really just a second rate Fistful of Dollars. I really did like it, though.
Inglourious Basterds (2009) 10/10 - Somehow I love this movie more each time I see it. It's pretty much perfect.
Pulp Fiction (1994) 10/10 - Do I really need to explain? Simply a brilliant film. In my top ten, for sure.
Reservoir Dogs (1992) 10/10 - Re-watching this film is always very interesting. And awesome. There's a lot to love here.
Django Unchained (2012) 10/10 - I saw this last night and was overjoyed to find this film was everything I could have hoped for. It's easily my fourth favorite Tarantino film, and far above all his others. Damn good film. Amazing film. Hell of a lot of fun too. I'm still floored. Highly recommended.

Star Trek Generations (1994)
Sheesh, this came out in '94? Man how time flies. Well, my chronological journey through Star Trek has brought me here. It's been and continues to be an interesting ride. I still don't get the harsh criticisms against this film. Yeah the Nexus is a stupid mcguffin along with the excuses for why Soran has to resort to what he's doing but darn it the film isn't all bad. It had strong ties to the show which had just wrapped up and then rolled into the production of this film. We get to see the end of Lursa and B'Etor as well as see the return of Guinan after a long absence. We also see a Picard acting like himself and not the action hero of the later films. Overall I felt it stayed pretty true to the soul of the show and that's why I like it.
Outside of this film, I'm sad we never got to see any resolution with Tasha's daughter Sela. She would have made an interesting movie villain. The Generation films in general I think would have been stronger if they had all been focused on tying up loose threads from the show. Oh well.
I think the problem is that coming off the fan-fucking-tastic Undiscovered Country...this really just seems like an average TNG episode with better special effects. It's not a bad film, it's just kind of...meh. For the start of a "new dynasty in Star Trek history", keeping in mind that the TOS films had their own great legacy and were still relatively current, this was a rocky start. But then ST:TMP was like that too, and First Contact proved to be the equivalent to Wrath of Kahn so all went well. Until Insurrection. And then Nemesis. Which I actually thought was a return to form--you know, even numbered episodes and all--but I'm definitely in the minority on that one. I've also never re-watched it since the theater so maybe my 15-year-old brain was easily impressed.
Nemesis....BLECH.
Django Unchained (2012)
Boy does Tarantino love his blood squibs. Very disturbing at times and really plays on the human need for vengeance. I also thought it was interesting how he felt the need to create a sympathetic German character after Inglorious Basterds. A fun film overall. Spike Lee is an idiot.
While it had its problems, I have never hated Nemesis. Bear in mind I haven't seen it for some time either. But I feel there were some interesting moreal questions there, such as, 'what makes a man good or bad, and could a different life have made a different me?' Some stuff was gimmicky, some stuff was completely stupid (such as the mind-meld Troi rape), but I feel a decent fan edit could make it a good film. Oh, and I thought it was about time someone did something with the Remans. I actually had thought about why we didn't hear mention of the Remans in middle school and drew warships that were supposedly their design.

You bet I am! But I find it impossible to believe that I've the only one who designed Star Trek or Star Wars ships on paper ;)
That gif is the best thing in this thread.
Anyway, I liked First Contact, but on par with Kahn? Child, please.
Die Hard
The 1995 LD looks like all other versions of the film on video: contrasty and video like. But we're used to that. The sound? Another matter entirely. The Dolby Surround mix is thought to be the original 35mm mix and it does have some different effect placement. Very very satisfying experience, with natural sound so good I turned off my sub.
What makes the film so memorable is all of the little touches, the human moments that were completely unexpected of a genre film, let alone an action movie. And we still feel the impact of Die Hard today. Watching last night I was struck at how many of the shots, compositions and structure have been done repeatedly in later films.

Not on par--although very close, in my opinion--but equivalent in terms of a really lame first film followed by a really kick-ass second film that re-kindled faith in the series and showed what could be possible. Search For Spock gets crictism as the odd-numbered entry, but really the only problem it has is that it isn't Wrath of Kahn or Voyage Home. It's a pretty good movie, surrounded by great movies. Too bad Insurrection was even more average than Generations. You'd think after the success of First Contact they'd put more thought and money into the follow-up than the two-hour TNG episode that Insurrection is.

I always felt the "The Voyage Home" was way overrated. I think "The Final Frontier" has aged much better, and is more of a Star Trek film then 'Voyage Home".

Not to mention one they'd already done.
I always thought "All Good Things" would have made a great movie. As some remastered TNG episodes have been getting theatrical screenings, maybe I'll get my wish.

They did make that into a movie.

I was vaguely aware of this service, but didn't know there was a doc about it. It got stranger as it went on, as the story was taken over by the dude on the cover art, and there was a disturbing yet somehow not surprising twist near the end. The subject matter should be especially interesting to those faneditors among us, and probably to the Mormons wandering the thread as well.
Overall a pretty interesting tale. 4 glory hounds out of 5 terrible decisions.

I agree, I still have my VHS tape from when it first aired, with a making-of special, and it's a better send off than any of the TNG movies save for First Contact.
Final Frontier I will agree has all the markings of a classic Trek story, and it's not nearly as bad as people say. It just has some major flaws. But I never understood the venom thrown at it; in fact, I would say TMP and Insurrection are the worst Trek films, and even those are pretty watchable in my opinion. Voyage Home is "dated" in certain respects, but it's a 1987 time travel story so those "dated" elements actually enhance the authenticity of it. I think that's why it continues to hold up. At first it was current. But as soon as it ceased to be current it started to become retro, which dovetails with the storyline pretty nicely.
Always easier on a film's budget to travel back to the time you're actually in than recreate a bygone era. And now, even the "Nuclear Wessel" Enterprise is passing into history.
TFF had it's heart in the right place. Studio meddling was the real villain here. And Paramount still won't give Shatner a chance to rework it and finish some FX. Maybe for Trek's 50th anniversary?
The evil energy being who wants to inhabit the Enterprise to carry it away from it's "prison", is a complete lift of the animated Trek episode "Beyond the Farthest Star" though.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) 10/10 - Finally got a chance to watch this Blu-ray Christmas gift of mine, and, you know what? Still awesome. With all the criticism going around, I keep expecting myself to like it less each time I re-watch, but quite the opposite happens. Still my favorite this year.

Me too.
I loved it, and then I thought about it. And then I realized all the holes, and how some of the criticism was right. So I watched it again.
None of that meant squat. You know, in Star Wars, how Princess Leia says she knows the Falcon is being tracked yet still flies to the Rebel base, which leads the Death Star to there? Well, stuff like that. The sign of a good movie is when it surpasses some pretty clear flaws just on the basis of being entertaining, and I feel like pretty much every movie Chris Nolan has made is like that.
