I don't read any of that network. I'm glad to see I'm still justified.

Kotaku has always been a joke. You should stick to sites like Rock Paper Shotgun. Myself I've always trusted people like Adam Sessler for my gaming news.

I approve.
So I received this in the mail a few days ago:
The photo doesn't do it justice, in terms of quality or size. Thing is HUGE. Suffice it to say it's the best gift I've gotten in years.
Does it play properly? I've had problems with running old Windows 95 games, where the speed was x2. This was a problem with Resident Evil because the reaction time and pacing was thrown way off. That's why I switched to using Steam releases when possible. But it's awesome to have the huge box art.
I think it is a poster, not that actual game box, which is really awesome! Not to say having the original box for the game wouldn't be pretty sweet too, but a full size MI movie poster is extremely cool. Rare (impossible?) to find game box art that gorgeous these days.
I saw Dark Forces (one of my all time favorite games from my youth) on floppies in a near mint condition box at a thrift store not to long back, almost bought it, but passed it up realizing it would just be one more thing to lug around every time I move.
I hear you, I have so much stuff it is actually a legitimate problem. I would put it in storage, but I really can't afford to do that. I will probably end up selling some of it, unfortunately. I have a complete collection of boxed McFarlane Movie Maniac series1-4 figures sitting in a closet completely covered in dust that honestly takes up more space than they are worth.

Yeah it's a 24 x 32 poster and thanks! It is a real tragedy about the state of box art these days. The fact that Ken Levine has to stoop to this is just sad. =(
As for playing the old Lucasarts adventure games there's a simply awesome utility called ScummVM. It allows you to play all of the old 2D Lucasarts adventure games on just about any open platform you can think of. PC, Android, iOS, Wii, Dreamcast etc. They all run perfectly too. I've been playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on my phone for a while now. What's also nice about it is that it has expanded to support a number of non-Lucasarts adventure titles as well. As for old 3D adventures like the amazing Grim Fandango there's a new one called ResidualVM that was just released that allows you to play it on modern operating systems.

Wow, that is some very ugly box art. :( Kind of disappointing. I really like the box art to the original Bioshock, though BS2's is nothing to write home about but not an eyesore either. Infinite's cover is just painful though.
Even if I were one of the retarded frat idiots Levine is talking about marketing to, I think I'd write this one off as a really gay looking cowboy game if I knew absolutely nothing about Bioshock.

And the Nintendo DS, which has the perfect controls for old 2D point and clicks. Monkey Island never felt right on my iPhone.
Have you tried the ultimate talkie patch for SoMI? I've been replaying it and it's so cool being able to play with the original graphics but with the voice work from the SE.
No, hadn't heard of it. That is really cool. I always wished they would have patched SoMI SE so that you could have voice with the old graphics. They got it right with MI2 SE, which I was really pleased with.
Still really bothered by the way Guybrush looks in the SE. Everything looks pretty good in the second one, though.
Yeah I don't know how they did it but it creates the CD release that never was. Makes a talkie SoMI that can be played in ScummVM. It's very interesting, it's setup to use the original music but if you want you can use the SE music and even then you can also use the extended SE tracks as well.
Very well put together, the only odd things I've encountered is that the images are slightly soft compared to an original copy of the game but it's not noticeable while playing and I have a huge monitor. The other thing is that for the SE when you talk to the dog in the bar they added a close up screen and for some reason it's left in the ultimate talkie. Other than that it's fantastic.

I am pretty sure the dog close up is in some old versions of the game. I remember being confused as a kid because it was on the back of the box in the screen shots, but not in the actual game.
Steam sales have been pretty disappointing this year, but I did pick up Chivalry. I'm hoping to get Hotline: Miami, and Left 4 Dead 2 for my GF.
Finally ordered Halo 4 yesterday. Maybe we'll catch some of you guys online.

Seriously though - I'd love to catch up. I am yet to tackle the campaign on Legendary - They've cranked the difficulty up a bit on this one, Although part of the learning curve is what gear to use in certain situations...
re: Hotline:Miami - I hear good things!
Got a chance to play some of the new Rage DLC...Remember Rage? no? well the DLC is good fun - it's called the Scorchers and follows one of the wasteland clans.
There's new characters, a cool new weapon = The Nailgun which can also fire lengths of rebar that pin enemies to walls and also transforms into a railgun that can see enemies and fires through walls.

Whoa! Rage! That was that game I was kind of excited about based solely on the trailer and aesthetics. I had made up my mind not to get it and save the money, had kind of a bad day the day it was released, and ended up buying it as a kick in the face to the less than pleasant day, feeling sure it was just the answer for a cheer up. Tried playing it numerous times, but was never able to get into it.
Really felt like a shooter from the late 90's early 00's. Not in a bad way, kind of in a nostalgic way, but the bottom line for me was it didn't feel very fresh and I had a hard time feeling motivated about it. Need to give it another shot. It was fun watching the price rapidly drop on the thing throughout the year. I think it was down to under twenty for a used copy less than six months after it came out. Now it is only $10 at Gamestop.
Kind of bad when you can pick up a copy of a game for a wee bit more than it's new DLC. It wasn't a game I would have expected DLC for. Ringo has made it sound kind of fun. If I ever manage to finish Rage, I may just drop $5 dollars on this thing.
Still fiddling around in Minecraft every now and then. On Christmas Day I found potatoes, they were a nice christmas present from a zombie. :D
I bought the Neo Geo X Gold. The first new system I buy (on launch month no less) since 1996 and it's a retro throwback. I guess I'm just one of those guys.
Will let you know if it's awesome or junk. I'm curious to see if they will actually develop new games for it or if it's just going to be endless ports.
LOL so true.
