Unless they got a copy from Disney themselves, this preservation is still absolutely necessary. I'm 99% sure that the DVD that they are selling is from an existing transfer (IE: PAL LD or VHS, or HK or JP LD) and not from a "non-destroyed" source. There are problems with each of the listed sources, mostly with blended fields. That is what this preservation will fix, as it will be frames linked together, similar to how a movie really works, rather than a digital approximation, like what the LD did. Disney has made steps to preserve SOTS, but whether we will ever see a release only time will tell.
