Did DKR warn us about recent "False Flag" shootings? — Page 2

The unfortunate fact is that there is too many of you to think otherwise.

Case in point: Canada is ruled by a conservative government. In fact, the ruling party is officially called The Conservative Party. When the issue of gay marriage comes up, the conservative party shrugs and says "why is this in discussion?" We all support gay marriage, it's everyone's right. Why bring up the issue? The conservative government supports gay marriage to the point that it's not even in discussiuon. Same with healthcare. "Universal healthcare, of course. Why discusss it?" Same with gun control. "Why in the world would you need guns? You are a danger to society with a gun, so we are going to regulate you." This is the conservative party. Not the Liberal party. And the opposition--because we have a parliamentary system--is a socialist party. We're okay with that. We also believe in the separation of religion and government, and those issues don't factor into our politics. They are outside of it. This is the ruling right-wing government we have, which has been controversial. I don't support it. Stephen Harper is not my prime minister. Nor is he to most the people I know. He has been a pox on this country for the better part of the decade, and can eat shit as far as I am concerned. And yet, this is as conservative as we get. That says a lot, no? And this isn't unusual for most of western europe too.

When the right-wing leg of the Canadian government is more liberal than the Democratic leg of the American government, you have problems. It's impossible not to feel that way. It simply is the way the situation is. So, sorry, American culture has justified itself through numbers. It's not all bad, especially in the northern states. There isn't much difference between Pennsylvania and New York, and Ontario.

zombie84: I don't really know where I stand on the whole gun issue.

With that being said, I do have a question: Without access to similarly-powerful arms, how would Canadian citizens overthrow their government if it were to become oppressive and tyrannical?

Do know that I am not arguing for or against citizens bearing arms. My intent is for this to be a philosophical discussion, nothing more.

Answer: overthrowing the government is not on our minds. Just hearing that sounds genuinely insane. Seriously, is that something Americans think about? This perplexes me.

The "right to bear arms" part of the US constitution is as out of date as the right to slavery. It was written in there in pioneer times during the wild wild west, when there was danger all around and not much government. To Canadians it is bewildering--and also hilarious and sad--that this has remained. It's an obsolete law, just like owning a dildo in Arkensas can technically send you to a prison.

Such generalizations are the very definition of bigotry, no? I disagree with Canada's liberal stance on so many things, yet I don't march through town singing, "Blame Canada."

I doubt that it is something that Americans regularly (if ever) think about; myself included.

Still, we had to do it in the 1770s. If our weapons technology was not somewhat evenly-matched and our access to said weapons unrestricted, then we probably wouldn't have even considering taking up the fight.

(Edit: I think that this is what drove the Founding Fathers to write it into the Bill of Rights.)

What if the USA becomes a THX1138-level dystopia? Recent events and legislature would suggest that we're headed down that path...

Given your user-name, gotta ask. How'd you feel when Orson Card said we should have an armed insurrection if gay marriage was legalized?

Author

I certainly oppose. For one thing, I'm more of a fence sitter on the topic. For another, I feel insurrection should be a last resort and we were heading towards the Fourth Reich. Just because I like a man's characters and stories certainly doesn't mean I like his political views. If such were the case, you can bet I wouldn't be a member of a Star Wars site ;)

It's not a generalization when this comes from discussion within the various levels of American government.

Again, this is why I stay out of American politics. They are in their own world and my country isn't part of that, nor am I. There is nothing biogoted about embracing everyone and the right to health, love and safety for all. Good luck with it though. I truely mean that.

I assume you're questioning the latter sentence in what you've quoted.

Notice that "[heading] down that path" does not imply that it will happen tomorrow.

My career requires me to work to secure the safety of this country and uphold its constitution. I assure you that, unless we work for the same institution(s), I am in a more advantageous position to evaluate whether or not that constitution is being respected by those in power.

This topic was about the strange coincidences someone found in the Batman DKR film.  It was strange that the shooter's fathers where also both set to testify before the U.S. congress in the exact same major banking scandal. Some people feel that there is no such thing as coincidences. It was never meant to quantify the loss people have felt, or the emotional impact of the tragedy.  I have no problem with the thread becoming a gun control debate, but I want to state for the record, that it was not my intention.

And I gotta be honest, just because one disagrees with American politics, to judge all Americans, or at least those who lean conservative as insane or moronic is, to put it mildly, offensive. And to judge someone, not based upon their individual qualities, but rather as a member of a group does, in fact, qualify as prejudice bigotry, even if someone wears the proud credentials of being pro-gay marriage and anti-racism.

Being from different cultures, our worldviews are different. But to say one is superior than the other is not as all-accepting as so many liberals claim to be.

I agree.

What's cool is that many people would consider me to be a "raging liberal" and you and I get on well.

Gotta say, it's a good thing everything he's written in decades has sucked, otherwise his political opinions might color my perception of his work.

^His recent works definitely are an acquired taste. I'm actually going through Shadows in Flight right now. But I'm glad you appreciate his older stuff and don't let his views taint your opinions.

@bkev, I hope you are not getting irritated at me, because I don't even know whom you're referring to or what the problem is.

@AnctuFaalb--first, it's a pain in the butt to write your name because I have to look and make sure I'm spelling it right every time; second, I think we get along great as well, in spite of differences. I get along well with most people, regardless of political affiliation. It's when I read crap like the comments in Huffington Post or other similar comments from those who claim to be all-accepting that I get infuriated.
