DK and DKR were both films that, apparently with great success, dealt with the anxieties of the era.
That's why DK is held up as both a celebration and a condemnation of the Patriot Act. That's why DKR has been seen as a call for revolution and a satire of the Occupy protests. The modern era is filled with a general sense of an evil we can't understand, but dealing with that feeling in a film is not prescient.
The video only shows a building with the word "Aurora" (location where the shootings took place during the DKR opening night), and a prop map on Gordon's desk showing a location called "Sandy Hook" that Gordon then points to. No bad taste footage, or references to victims or motives.
