NFL to eliminate kickoffs?

Author

What does everyone think of this?   I think it is stupid.     The kickoff is part of the game.    How soon until they reduce the NFL to flag football?

They're still trying to head (bad pun) off lawsuits.  It's not gonna work.

College football is better anyway.

Instead of a coin toss and kickoff, the ball should be placed at the 50 yard line at the beginning of the game. Each team will be in their own endzone. Then, when the whistle blows, everyone runs at the ball to see who gets it first.

I haven't paid much attention to the NFL (or any pro sports) for a couple years. It's been a gradual descent and lack of interest. I barely follow college football now. I know there's a lot of money involved (that's a major problem), but it all just seems so...inconsequential.

When I hear people arguing about sports, what this guy said, what that guy said, etc., it just seems like such a waste of time. I think the culture of sports is extremely bloated. Watching a bit of a game here and there is fun, but anything beyond that doesn't interest me now.

Rant over.

Yes, a sport where we vote instead of decide on the field is so much better.

well georgec, you are free to not post in this thread, if you think sports is "so...inconsequential".

A league used to (sort of) do that!

Maybe the ball could be modeled in a computer and people in the crowd can try to vote the co-ordinates or throw the vote if the player is on the other side creating a probable location which shows up on a players HUD.

The player can then 'kick' the ball which will only move if the kick was within a proximity zone

Yea, that's why I mentioned it. But instead of single players, have both teams running at each other from opposite sides. It'd be like a huge battle from Braveheart at the beginning of every game!

I think the whole reason behind eliminating the kickoff, was player safety.    Having both teams run into each other from goal lines  defeats that purpose.

It would be a lot safer if the players recorded the game the day before without the ball and then the footage could be projected into the arena what a trained animal or small child carried the ball to the correct position.

That way the players wouldn't need to wear that camp armour.

They could just wear shorts and a jersey.

You do your job, pencil neck, don't tell me how to do mine.

If the NFL is concerned about safety, I don't see much of a difference between 60 minutes of hits vs. 59 minutes and 53 seconds of hits.

p.s. - the idea of two teams running into each other is meant to be taken as a joke. ;)

I think the reason is that on kickoffs, the players collide while going alot faster than at other times of the the game.

It's all rubbish.

When I watch football I want to see oversized genetic bohemoths cause each other brain damage. There is no other reason it's on.
