I like George Lucas

I've just realized something about George Lucas...I love that dude.

He is a total nerd and can be very stubborn, but he created something that basically defined my childhood along with countless others.

I know..the prequels and the special editions.  I don't even care.  I can't help but feel affection for George.  I actually feel bad for him for all the internet viatrol after he released the prequels and seemed to be genuinely trying to make cool movies.

There, I said it.  George feels like my uncle.  Rarely seen and the source of much frustration, but much beloved nonetheless.  I will actually be really, really sad when he dies.

I wish that I could just wish my feelings away...but I can't.  Wishful wishing can only lead to wishes wished for in futile wishfulness, which is not what I wish to wish for.

I love the old man myself.

I just wish he'd have done right by everyone. That's my only gripe with him.

Yeah but in that thread it is like people are struggling to find nice things to say.  The premise is that he is mostly bad. I disagree.  I think he just has one of those nerdy personalities and he is often misunderstood.  But I think he's a good guy.  I think if most of us who bash him actually met him, we would come away with a different POV.

No, I agree.  Many disappointments.  But why do we care so much?

The flip side of anger is love;)

I just think you might want to narrow the focus of your title a little.  Although I'm tempted to start a thread called "Star Wars"...

Sometimes I wish he worded his feelings about what he does more along the lines of "This is something I've been meaning to do for a long time" or "I hope everyone is able to appreciate what I'm doing with as much enthusiasm as I do" instead of falling back on earning the control over everything or talking about the decisions in relation only to how he feels about them as opposed to what he might consider better for all of us, but at the end of the day we couldn't have gotten here without the guy so my hat's off to ya.

1990osu, I just knew you were a troll!

j/k

I actually really like the man too and wish that people were kinder to him.  I feel like he's a good guy who's done good things and gets a bad rap for his stubborn mistakes.  I really don't enjoy reading everyone's psychoanalyses of him, as if they were qualified to determine all his motives from a distance based on some things he said in a few interviews.  There is still good in him, I can feel it.

While I think George is way too stubborn and principled for his own (and everyone else's) good, he doesn't deserve all the hate and bashing that's been going on for many years. It's ok to criticize the guy since he's obviously made lots of very bad decisions, but hating is a different thing. Without him we wouldn't have these films we love so much.

Agreed. I give him props as the creator of Star Wars, the principal guy involved in bringing that team and that creative vision together.  None of this could've happened without him.

Plus, I think he's genuinely a nice guy. He wouldn't be donating assloads of money to charities and supporting education if he were the monster people think he is.

The ONLY beef I have with GL is that he wont give us the OUT.

Other than that I think he's a great filmmaker and a helluva guy. Edutopia is a great resource, and this Foundation does amazing work. His daughter kicks ass in MMA and he loves flannel. What's not to like? I think RadioLand Murders and Young Indy were super. For years he has let other creators play in his sandbox, giving me hundreds of hours of additional enjoyment. He's a technological visionary and the THX 1138 short film still blows my mind.

Huh, am I at TFN??

Just kidding. I think he's very creative and genuinely a good guy. His stubborness just leads to ridiculous things, without it he could be truly one of coolest guys in movie business.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

As I have said before, I think we all love George: there's great respect for him, and we are nearly all grateful to him for the work he's done and the impact his films have had on our lives, even on a board like this.

But we're all also very frustrated over his double-standards, his attempts to alter and destroy pieces of history, and his denial to us of a hugely influential piece of our childhoods.

But I think that, in the end, we would all very gladly personally hand him our money and thanks for the OOT.

I don't hate the man who created one of the most famous movies ever. But , we just want the originals, the movies that where made famous. I have always felt sad when someone bashes him.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

Does he like you? Does he like his fans?

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.
