Discuss the new film set for release in 2013. Poster has me intrigued, but cautious. I was one of the fans of the last one despite the lens flares; I hope this one turns out as good.

I hear they are doing another comic book prequel, Looking forward to checking that out. I enjoyed the one they put out for the last film.

Read a brief synopsis but don't really know a lot. Sounds like it's going to be quite action heavy.

Poster looks kinda cool - but I think Batman did the idea better [and earlier].

Oh hey, another Batma... oh.

That poster. Whoa!

First trailer with The Hobbit this month, and ten minute preview if you see the IMAX version.

I think it's a safe bet Khan isn't the villain, but I don't want to be a spoiler with my educated guess. Unless you really want me to?

It's not a spoiler unless you're right, and I don't expect it to be kept secret for much longer anyway. Give it a shot.

You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark.

I was born in it.

Could be Charlie X. Or Gary Mitchell. Or Trelane. Or Apollo. Or any number of super powerful beings Kirk ran into in TOS.

My favorite part is the line in the synopsis:

"they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for"

How does one "detonate" a fleet, or what it stands for? That's not a verb to be used like that.

It's become a running joke on the Star Trek podcast I frequent.

I think that it's Gary Mitchell, At first i was thinking more along the lines of Charlie Evans, but i think Mitchell would make a better villain because he was Kirks best friend. Plus Benedict is a little too old to play a 17 year old boy.

As much as this makes sense, apparently

1. They've done Gary Mitchell in the Trek09 comics

2. They've said that the comics based on Trek09 are actually canon.

So probably not.

Remember Lost? Those guys lie. ;-)

The upcoming episode of the Ready Room my friends say they've hit upon who they think it is, and its no one people seem to be talking about...

Is the title "Into Darkness" with "Star Trek" being the series,

or are they taking a "Star Trek" that goes "Into Darkness"

The latter sounds really silly to me.

You can't really trek between the stars without encountering a lot of darkness.

TheBoost, I believe it is exactly as the title of this thread reads, with no colon.  From what I've read, the reason is because they wanted to avoid Roman numerals like the TOS-based films did, as well as avoid colons like the TNG-based films did.  Kinda self-limiting, I know, but their reasoning makes sense.

I loved the last one, Star Trek in general, and J.J. Abrams. So I'm pumped.

Also, going to have to agree that I think it will be Gary Mitchell. At least I hope it is. That would be awesome.

As for the title, I like it. It's sort of retro, in a way. Like I could see that as a title of of an old comic book or serial. I think that's cool.

I must confess I'm not expecting much this time around.

I thought the last one was just another average Star Trek film almost exactly the same as Nemesis which I didn't mind that much so if this one is better and different it would surprise me in a good way.

I guess. I'm looking forward to the sequals:

  • Star Trek Over the River and Through the Woods
  • Star Trek To a Place Where there are Villains
  • Star Trek Back Home

Snark aside, movie will probably be good.

They did "Where No Man Has Gone Before" in the current comic, and Mitchell is dead. Not that death is a major handicap in Trek, but the movie would have to address those events and not screech to a halt. Khan's backstory was a little easier to summarize.

It's got to be someone in Starfleet, and probably high ranking. Captain Garth was someone Kirk looked up to, so that would add a real dimension if he has to take him down.

I can't decide if that's a rocketship, or a battery operated device. ;)

Shush you.

I don't understand why anyone would really wanna see Khan again - if anything they could put him in the comics and save the big screen adventures for fresh stories [like they did with Gary Mitchell] - the whole point of rebooting the timeline.

Yeah, it's London. The London eye is in the left hand corner as well. Explains all the English actors in this film. I guess they're not playing french characters after all.

I quite like the new poster, it's certainly a lot different from all the other Trek posters. Colour me excited.
