too accurate for Sand People. Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise." - Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Is this sarcasm? Because, from what I have seen, stormtroopers have a pretty lousy shot. And in The Phantom Menace, Sand People are pretty good at hitting those pod racers traveling 1000 mph. Any thoughts?

very interesting point... i guess i never really thought the stormtroopers were bad shots...
they were probably really good shots...

but lets be honest now...
if they showed them being good shots and hitting the characters...
i think we wouldn't have had 3 movies.. lol

they had to miss on purpose just so they didnt kill off the whole cast...

Thats what I also thought. Perhaps they were ordered to capture them alive and they were not supposed to hit them, just make them surrender. At least thats my excuse for them never hitting anything. (except Leia's arm in RotJ)

Well, they were pretty accurate in ANH right up to Obi-Wan's comment (in their battle with the Rebel troops on Tantive IV), but after that line, their accuracy has been all shot to hell ever since. They're supposed to be elite, but I've seen very little indication of that in the movies.

that quote always bothered me too. there is a big difference between accuracy and precision, and as a trained chemist, i always cringe when i hear obi wan just jumble these terms together. especially since stormtroopers can't hit the side of a barn. it's not exactly 1st order canon, but in the jedi knight pc games the storm trooper blasters are the least precise of any energy weapon you can pick up. it's just accepted, stormtroopers and their rifles can't hit shzt.

also, near the end of the 3rd season of "family guy," they spoof this idea. peter is at a shooting range and next to him is a stormtrooper shooting at a cutout of luke, and missing badly.

huzzah for archival THEATRICAL OT!!!

Hmn... Nah... It's just a plot hole. After all, it is only a movie. And I bet you guys didn't notice their lack of aim the first time you watched it.

When Luke puts on one of the helmets he says "I can't see a thing" or something.

That line always sticks in my head, if he can't see anything out of the helmet how can the Stormtroopers?

Don't say "because they are clones" or I'll feed you to the Sarlaac.

good point there Regicidal_Maniac...
that could be the best explanation...

but i still say if they did have great aim i think the movie would have only been about an hour long...
lol
after all they do this in all movies...
why is it that when someone is making a last minute dash somewhere and they're getting shot at from behind they never get hit?
but every bullet is directed at their feet....

its just how movies are made... close calls/suspense ring a bell?

thats what i think anyway

Great Site Guys!

For my first post I have decided to reveal the "Truth" behind why Stormtroopers in the Prequels are such Deadeyes and why the OT Troopers can't hit the side of a barn.

After the demise of Boba Fett, a new sourse of DNA would need to be found for future clones after the remaining supply was exhausted.
It probably took about 15 to 20 years to use what was left of Boba's DNA before a new source was found.

So, who is the source of DNA for all Stormtroopers in the OT?

Any guesses?

The DNA sources for all OT Troopers is......Special Edition Greedo!

It's the only answer. It just goes to prove that Lucas wanted Greedo to "miss first" all along.

Well played Sith Lord.

I was always curious myself, but this solves it.

Aside: Nobody really seems all that accurate with the Stormtrooper rifles. I mean, in the prison escape scene, as well as later when Luke and Leia are on the unextended bridge. I think maybe those particular rifles just suck or something. But most likely its a dramatic element. Like others have said, you cant kill all the main characters off in their first encounter with the ultra-precise stormtroopers.

my friends and i have wondered about this, and what i can say is that we look back to greek tragedies for an explanation. in the Illiad for example, a hero (that has a name) could not be killed by someone who didnt have a name; but that person could very well kill many others with no name.

OK so they all look like Greedo under those helmets? Creepy.

And, oh, here's something I ever understood: how come Han Solo can understand what Chewbacca says? I mean, those are just groans and noises he makes, how come he can understand sentences from it?

Hell, he had conversations with Chewie's family in the Holiday Special.

I can't say I'm proud that I know that.

Yes, I've noticed Han understand what the wookies say, but the thing is, how come he can identify sentences from it?? I mean, how can you comunicate a complex sentence by just grunting like that? It's not like huttese, a language that actually sounds like it means something, with words and everything... OK maybe the wookies can comunicate by extreme complex combinations of fast sounds, but there's NO way a human could understand it!
