I actually believe that it was possible. He could have, at the last second, jumped out of the window that he was watching and enter into space and lived there. I know I sound like an idiot right now, but in Star Wars, a science fiction film saga, actually ignores scientific accuracy. There is sound in space, and remember how anakin skywalker and obi wan kenobi were like in outer space right above coruscant, outside of their so called in real life "protective" spaceships, they were practially in outer space without a spacesuit and they could still breathe and survive, unlike in hard science fiction........

So, Tarkin could've survived being in outer space without a wearing a spacesuit on his body......

Tarkin could've jumped outta the window and been in outer space during the explosion, if he had changed his mind at the last moment......
