With the news of this release, I am holding out hope that there may yet be expanded treatments for the films

From Russia with Love

The Man With the Golden Gun (a real favorite of mine)

The Spy Who Loved Me

Moonraker (another gem)

Holee crap! An actual Dr. No score release???

Wait...isn't it the original "soundtrack" with 10-12 minutes added? After comparing tracklistings I think this may be the case, but how much of the score could that include I wonder?

I wish they had been able to do more on the 2003 remaster series, but EMI wouldn't give any more time or $$$. Plus on some titles they did some remixing which always threw me, not to mention that the project was only done at 24bit 44.1khz sampling rate. Some original vinyl sounds better. The second half of Thunderball that was unreleased for so many years actually sounds better in the Suite version found on disc 2 of the 1992 Best of Bond compilation.

Many are still incomplete: FRWL, GF, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, LTK and a few others IIRC.

Goldfinger finally added the four tracks from the original British score, but is still missing some bits. Spy as released was an alternate re-recording and the original score has never been issued. Even "Nobody Does it Better" is different as heard in the film versus the release! Moonraker's master tapes are still supposedly lost in France somewhere...do we have any French Bond fans who are also musicians working in studios...? ;)

Some bad news on this release.  It seems that they just used the effects/music track from the Criterion releases as there source for the un-issued cues.   Bummer!

As in they just captured LD analog audio??? Talk about non-professional, that's something we could do. (and you did!)

Non CX encoded analog audio at that. Would they have had to get Criterion's permission to do this?

Are you saying that I am Non-Professional? I'm so insulted! ;)

Nah, I just find it kinda funny when official releases utilize consumer available products for their work.

Guess there's no tapes anywhere of Dr. No score material.

Since Dr. No was remixed for 5.1 on the UE DVD and Blu Ray, wouldn't they need to have all the original music tracks to do that?

I'd like for the From Russia With Love soundtrack to actually feature the title track as recorded in the film. That organ just makes the song for me.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Does Ms. Galore have a portrait in her attic, or what?

I take issue with Jill Masterson being labelled an actual enemy of Bond though.

Thought this, too. Pretty obvious (especially in the book) that she "changes sides" (it's also pretty obvious that she was never on Goldfinger's side).

Since most Bond villains have legitimate businesses as a cover, there are probably a lot of employees who are clueless as to how evil their bosses really are. ;)

Exactly. And in the novel their time on the train is quite touching despite the obvious.

Well, this was unexpected. I'm not sure if I could survive seeing Ursula Andress in 3D Imax.;)

Love or hate the idea, this might rid us of the Lowry transfers in the long term.

That's it. That tears it. What. The. Fuck. Unbelievable. Desecration.

Psycho time.

THIS IS A 1962 FILM SHOT FLAT WITH A VERY LOW BUDGET AND IS ABLE TO MAINTAIN AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF ATMOSPHERE BECAUSE OF IT. THE SOUND IS MONO. YOU HAVE ALREADY RUINED THE ORIGINAL GRAIN STRUCTURE, COLOR TIMING, SOUND MIX, AND NOW THIS PUTRID GRAB FOR MORE MONEY. HAVEN'T YOU ALREADY MILKED US ENOUGH? YOU SHOULD BE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO PAY DAMAGES TO THE ESTATES OF TERRENCE YOUNG, TED MOORE, PETER HUNT AND ALL OTHERS WHO PUT THEIR BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS INTO THE MAKING OF THIS FILM.

Though I don't use the phrase, though I disagree with it's connotation entirely, this would be the only time I would use the "raped my childhood" argument. It's that bad. After all these years of cropped presentations we finally got 1.66 primarily restored...only to now lose it again. Even that's gone. This will destroy the film. Completely.

Fuck.

It's being suggested over at the Home Theater Forum that this is just a bootleg.

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/327939/dr-no-1962-3-d-conversion-tested-in-taiwan

I used to see conversions of old movies (usually public domain titles) intended for use with those LCD shutter glasses type systems.

Also worth noting the reputable dealer YesAsia has no listing for this thing currently.

How long before we see fake 3D Star Wars Blu Rays?

Anybody watching the Oscars tonight? My cable has been sputtering on account of the windy weather, but I did catch Shirley Bassey singing Goldfinger. She simply does not age!

Did Sean, George, Roger, Timothy, Peirce, and Daniel show up? Rumors were still flying about that earlier today...

Couldn't they have just given up the show's bad musical numbers and made it a mini-concert? Though I've been a lifelong Oscar watcher and would be freaking out if actually present, that would have been me in the audience calling loudly "MOONRAKER!!!";)

Nobody showed, and I think this may be why the supposed "big" presentation didn't occur. All we got was the pitifully short montage. At the very least I would have loved to see anyone on-stage get some kind of recognition, perhaps in lieu of some decent roles for Pierce, Tim or George.

BTW thank goodness that abomination got the boot. ;)

Dr. No-- in IMAX- good idea, maybe; in 3D- oh no...

For what it's worth, I've seen the 3D BD conversion, or at least a rip of itThat being said, might as well post some thoughts: The rip was low quality SBS3D despite being 10 GB; it was stretched to 1:78 from 1:66. . It uses the Lowry master-- the BD audio tracks even sync to it still. Thus, all the flaws of the Lowry master are present- color timing and grain-wise.

Though I doubt this was official, there were appeared to be some scant moments of depth. However, I admit that I might be wrong. To me, the title's seemed to have a 3D effect, nothing obnoxious though. In the opening Three Blind Mice scene, the horizon looked like it was farther back in space. Additionally, the painting in M's office seemed oddly far back. I'm still watching the rest of the movie, but I sure hope the official conversion is better.

his isn't the worst I've seen (read: NOT obnoxious), but it could be much better. Still a misguided concept. Any souls wishing to find the rip I saw only need to look at the bay of pirates... ;)

I was tempted to buy GoldenEye the other day, but I'm such a completionist I'd want to eventually buy them all, so I might as well wait for a crazy sale on the 50th set...
