After watching that for do its thing at least a hundred times, I've decided I like Dalton's the best.
Easy A
Was actually really good. Really smart, and thoroughly enjoyable Emma Stone is fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeee.
The film contains loads of references to The Scarlet Letter, the book (which I've read) and two screen adaptations (The 1926 version, which I saw at uni, It's Awesome, and the 1995 version starring Gary Oldman and Demi Moore , which sucks balls,... and not in a good way... as a Brit it was physically painful to hear Demi Moore's "English accent")
Easy A also has references to 80s John Hughes films, of which I have never seen before (I've seen things like Baby's Day out *shudder* and Home Alone) so this movie made me want to seek them out. Needless to say, I was thoroughly entertained by them. I watched them with my lady friend who hasn't seen any John Hughes movies, period.
I could only rent out two DVDs from my uni library because I have a bunch of books that I already have out and I only have a limited amount of stuff to take out.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
A real good sweet, warm-hearted comedy. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with it, but I sympathised a lot more with the adult characters than maybe I should've done. I also didn't particularly like the Ferris Bueller character very much, I know he was supposed to be cool and 'rad' for skipping school, but having gone through that phase myself in my life it really bothered me.
The Breakfast Club
Damn. Now this is a really really good movie, I can't believe I've never seen this film before (which is odd considering how much I dig 80s movies.). And now I'm all depressed because although I know the ending is uplifting or whatever, I will never be able to write something as good as this.
:(
Spoilers
How come Brian didn't get a girl in the end? The other two guys did. Doesn't seem particularly fair. If the point of the story was to break down stereotypes, then perhaps it would have been better for the geek to hook up with one of the girls, most likely Allison, and for the jock to stay single. And why did Allison need a makeover at the end anyway? I thought she looked better before the makeover.
