So, in light of the new Lucasfilm/Disney deal, anyone have any ideas where this might leave the future of things like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango and other LucasArts properties?

I could never imagine Disney embracing them and doing anything with then, thank goodness. But does it mean they are likely to license them out for others to use, like the Monkey Island 1 and 2 SE and Tales of Monkey Island? Or is it more likely this means we'll never see or here from them again?

EDIT: Just remembered the whole Monkey Island/Pirates of the Caribbean connection. The first pirates movie seemed to take at least a few ideas from the game series, so perhaps this means we have some pretty big MI fans on the inside at Disney. Now I am half expecting to see Guybrush Threepwood and Capt. Jack Sparrow team up for swashbuckling silliness in the next PotC film.

Stranger things have happened. Such as Disney buying the rights to make a film adaption of the pirate novel which was the actual inspiration for Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island series, then making it into a fourth PotC film with the book's title as the subtitle. That was weird.

What's weird about that is that they went and licensed the book but then only used the title. Pretty much nothing from the book made it into the movie.

The whole POTC/MI connection is kind of sad. They were working on an animated MI movie back in the '90s but it was cancelled. Later on a couple of the writers from that project were hired to work on POTC and decided to use concepts from the now defunct film.

As for if we'll ever see more MI, that will again be up to the president of Lucasarts. The only Lucas property Disney is interested in is Star Wars.

Finally finished Skyrim. I must say that Alduin [the big bad] was pretty disappointing in the end. The least interesting of the Dragons and I didn't need to do anything special to kill him - he just has a butt-load of extra health.

Hopefully they'll put out some more DLC. The Vampire Lord stuff on the side was good fun. For now it goes back on the shelf to collect dust once more.

Going to pick up Halo 4 at midnight tonight [finally] - which is a little over 9 hours from now. I can't wait to get my hands on it, then I'll take things slow and sample all the various modes, install discs etc.

With all the early realeases going on it looks like there might be a good few people online by the time i get sorted.

The store I'm going to isn't that large so I don't expect much but I might take a few photos if there's anything interesting..

in the meantime I've been playing the hell out of bejewelled 3. I'm definitely addicted to that game. I've tried some of the others in the series but they all control differently, the others feel kinda clunky and awkward.

I guess I'm pretty excited by Halo 4.  I'm not getting it tonight and might just let someone get it for me for Christmas (ain't I magnanimous?)  I guess I was a lot more hyped for Halo 3 since I pre-ordered that one...  but mostly I think it's due to my huge backlog (Which I haven't posted here in sometime) that I can't validate spending $60 on a new game when I have so many I already can't play for free.

Finished Halo 3: ODST a couple days ago. That was pretty fun. I loved the noir atmosphere to it all. Though I'm still miffed that I somehow missed the last one or two audio logs.

I was hoping to have finished all of the preceding games (sans Wars) before Halo 4 came out but it doesn't look like that's going to be happening. Reach barely arrived in the mail today. Ah well, will definitely be pulling an all-nighter tonight on 4.

Why for Sans Wars*?  I really liked it and C3PX played at least 10 minutes of it before he gave up.

Seriously, though... I really liked it.

Did you get the extended ending on ODST?  Even if you're not the hardcore type to replay it on the hardest settings, you oughtta youtube the ending.  It's quite a bit different than the standard one.

Let me know how Halo 4 is.

Another thing that passed my mind about the Disney thing is the possibility of a Kingdom Hearts style crossover between Square and the Lucasfilm characters.

I regretted that back in the PS1 days that of all the game styles ripped off to turn into Star Wars games the one template that wasn't attempted was a Final Fantasy style game.

I tried the demo, it was okay. I've never been an RTS person. So I watched all of the cutscenes on Youtube. =P

Halo 4 is awesome! Graphically it was far and above the pretty cartoony 3. I've always thought there was a bit of relation between Halo and Mass Effect. Mostly creature design wise. These new graphics bring them a lot closer together. The main villain in this is CREEPY.

Story was pretty interesting. I'm glad to see it fits in with all of the pre-established canon perfectly. The dialog was okay, it seemed to be lacking the wit that was common in the others. But then again this was a bit of a darker story.

Gameplay was good. The new default control scheme is pants though. I'm glad you can get pretty close to 3's controls with the Recon layout. Multiplayer is great and pretty addictive. Haven't tried Spartan Ops yet, waiting for when my friend is available.

Overall 343 did a fantastic job and I'm looking forward to the rest of the new trilogy.

Tried to post about Halo 4 a few days ago but the forum crashed so I just went to bed instead.

I think Halo is a pretty cool guy-

the recon-esque control scheme is pretty decent.

I've still only run through a few campaign missions and some other side stuff but so far it's a lot of fun. I'm only on Normal setting which started out cruisey but is starting to kick my ass a little - mostly from me not being careful and wandering around looking at the pretty scenery. The detail is incredible!

I want to get the lay of the land before I attempt a legendary run through.

Played some spartan ops alone and with others and it's pretty decent - I can see it getting boring down the line unless they shake things up a little but there are a lot of toys to play with.

the cutscenes for spartan ops are more in depth than I was expecting too - i just thought it'd be mission briefings but it seems more like segments of a movie from what I've seen so far.

found a few terminal videos too - and those are pretty interesting, definitely want to see the rest of those..

The only thing that's been really distracting is the sound effects - a lot of familiar sounds have been changed, but on the whole everything sounds beefy and satisfying. The warthog used to hum to live when you got in, now it growls..

Finished Halo 4 on Normal last night. Had a great time. I might go back to it to go heroic or legendary if anyone else is game. Definitely curious about the Spartan Ops, so if anyone is game, my Gamertag is FlakeyMusician. The game is everything I thought it was going to be. Very slick. Plays like a well mixed Halo CE & Reach. Speaking of Reach, out of all the Halos I've played, I enjoyed Reach the most. Surprising!

I'm not sure if I'm going to multi on this game just yet. I've had a good time, but I'm on a campaign roll. I finished the previous Halos (except ODST. Don't own it yet), so I might hit up GOW3, Crysis 2, or Syndicate. Those have been on my backlog for quite some time and I'm tired of seeing them in my stack of unfinished games.

Haha, you remember.

RTS on the TV, just didn't work for me. At all. Wasn't fun and couldn't envision it becoming fun. Can't help but think that if it had a PC version I would have been really into it. Or maybe if it had implemented voice commands like Tom Clancy's End War, or done something else other than been a Halo themed game to make itself stand out. Instead, generic striped down RTS on console with Halo theme. Meh.

Did you stick around after the end credits?

Might try if the game lets us party up. Not sure if i'm up for a legendary run just yet though, Normal started to kick my ass towards the end there. Also I watched the legendary ending on youtube [zipperlips] so there's slightly less need to jump in atm..

maybe a 4 player run?

Spartan Ops is okay but it's candy. Not a feast like Campaign. the cutscenes for each episode are pretty cool though. Episode 2 was just released circa today. - You can view those independantly of gameplay but they might include minor spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished campaign!

Been playing a bit of Infinity slayer and it's pretty fun but it's different. The round is won by points [first team to 600] and not kills alone, points are awarded for a range of things ie: assists. custom loadouts and personal ordnance drops also shake things up a bit..

Started mucking about with forge - cobbling together a CTF spacestation i'm dubbing "blasteroids" [there be asteroids] - prolly need some playtesting once that's sorted..

That is interesting. Reach seemed like a game everyone either loved the crap out of, or completely disliked.

I honestly don't get that game at all. I tried to like it, but just found it really disappointing. I felt like I bought a game I've already played over and over and over and over and over again, only now it had different cut-scenes and a far less interesting storyline featuring far less likable and engaging characters.

Played a good bit of Spartan Ops now. It's okay. The pre-rendered cutscenes are neat but the gameplay bits aren't anything to write home about. We'll see where the story goes.

Also, I'll just post this here as I have no idea where else it should go. =P

I love the cutscenes for Spartan Ops [or sp.ops if you will], good fun and good quality.

The missions themselves are a bit bland solo but good fun in co-op - although I've gotten a few moments of lag here and there [gameplay is usually smooth].

I can't see it being successful beyond the first season if they don't shake things up, especially if they expect to charge money [or MS points] for further seasons.

It's still early but they really need to vary the mission goals - and add vehicle based missions - ie: you can't complete your goals without them.

right now it's button pressing mixed with moments of firefight. Something more akin to Tsavo Highway [Halo 3] could be fun - or even The Arbiter / The Oracle [halo 2] - Lots of aerial combat, assassinate a high value target [ie: boss level].

re: reach - I did enjoy it at first but ultimately it feels disappointing. I do love Long night of Solace though - that last ditch effort to turn the tide before things really get fucked up. Although - Why the hell does Jorge throw six out an air lock to plummet down to the planet surface? - there's a squad of Sabres parked not that far away..

The end of the game just didn't have the impact it should have. And the rest of Noble team were beyond frustrating - Immortal on the battlefield yet they contribute nothing, always going into armour lock, using inappropriate weapons AND not being able to equip them like you can Marines / ODSTs, They can't drive half as well as the worst Marine AI..i'm sure there's more I've forgotten.

Been working on a CTF map [with settings] in Forge - latest versions are in my fileshare [Gamertag = Yegore] if anyone wants to check it out and gimme feedback. You can have the best intentions but sometimes people just don't play a map they way you hope.

I've been playing Minecraft with my girlfriend for a bit and we run a server that we play with close friends. I've been thinking of getting one professionally hosted so I could play without a lot of mods and less lag and allow other people to play while still keeping the one at home. Anyone have any suggestions on where to host?

This is one of the servers that I'm looking at. I'm actually playing on their test servers as we speak. It seems pretty awesome so far.

Edit: There was 2 other people on the server and I kept getting killed by griefer at spawn so I decided to leave.

Yeah, I'm thinking of inviting people to play with us, though. I'm naming the server: Super Happy Fun time(in North Korea)
