I'm hoping that they completely disregard the EU when making the ST. Trying to have a good story that can follow on from ROTJ, while trying to have the EU as canon and having to stick to the plotlines etc that have come from them, would just be too constricting.
throw it all out and just have the continuity stick with what was in the movies only and we may have the chance of a good ST. Sure the EU fanboys will be up in arms about it, the same way as they have been about the Clone Wars series destroying part of the EU, but it's the only serious way a ST could be done especially if it has Luke, Leia and Han in it.
I would agree to a slightly more moderate form of this. There are certain foundational elements established in the early days of the EU that I would hate to see contradicted or retconned (such as the establishment of the New Republic with its governmental seat on Coruscant, Luke's Jedi Academy on Yavin IV, and Han and Leia having their three children [Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin]), and I'm no "EU fanboy" by any stretch of the imagination. Beyond those foundational elements, however, I'm in favor of the EU's various plotlines being completely ignored, since, as you say, any attempt to harmonize the ST with all of them would be utterly constricting. (Especially given the horrifically tangled and incoherent nature that has come to characterize the EU's "web" in recent decades.)
