A favorite scary movie of mine. (And finally back in print on DVD.) Easy to forget it was a tv movie, that was pushing the boundary of what you could get away with back then. It was also one of Stan Winston's earliest makeup gigs.

First time I saw Disney's Gargoyles tv show, I thought it had to have been influenced by this film.

Die Another Day (2002)

Opening theme by Madonna? UGH. This movie had its moments. The Korean imprisonment, Cuba, the sword fight. Outside of that though...eesh. They went way over the top with the outlandish tech it was ridiculous. I've never been a fan of Halle Berry and the whole "your momma" line was just terrible. Good action but overall pretty disappointing.

The Front - starring and directed by Woody Allen

Good movie about red scare blacklisting in Hollywood. Some people don't like Woody Allen. I am not one of those people.

Videodrome - starring James Woods

Pretty sure everyone has seen this movie. First time I saw it start to finish (I had seen the ending several times unfortunately). If you haven't seen it, you should but beware there is some graphic parts and the kissing sound effects are pretty gross.

If you want a Myspleen invite, just PM me and ask.

I like Woody Allen movies, especially the early funny ones. ;)

There were aspects of my college tv station days that were very Videodrome like. I keep Betamax tapes far away from my stomach just to be on the safe side...

I have been hearing that the new Bond movie "Skyfall" is EXCELLENT... by far the best Daniel Craig Bond.

I wish that I could just wish my feelings away...but I can't.  Wishful wishing can only lead to wishes wished for in futile wishfulness, which is not what I wish to wish for.

I might have to give it a shot. Daniel Craig hasn't been my cup of tea, I just think Javier looks ridiculous.

OHMSS

Loved this film. It's sad that we didn't get to see Lazenby mature into the role. I think they should've tried him out with another story treatment first off. OHMSS needed a veteran bond.

Sure, I think Connery would've been perfect, but he was tired of Bond, and would've acted like it. Lazenby's acting isn't the most amazing thing ever, but I get sucked into it. He moves the story along.

It's sad that this film doesn't really get an answer in Diamonds. In fact, Diamonds plays as if OHMSS never happened. Blofeld doesn't even want Bond dead like he did in YOLT, so WTF?

I loved Diamonds, but as for continuing the Bond vs Blofeld saga of events, it fails.

Lazenby is not a bad Bond. Actually he's a lot like Roger Moore when Moore isn't in the middle of a shitstorm of camp.

The soundtrack is another highlight. Those pre-Martin early Barry soundtracks are some of the most amazing works ever. I hold them as high as John Williams work.

Bond's theme in this film with that pounding synth, cascading in a sea of brass is a powerful end to an era. For Bond would be heading into the 70's and the music would too.

The film is beautiful, and it get's the eyes misting. If we could've seen a more seasoned performance, it would've made me cry. While I wish Donald Pleasance would've played Blofeld in all the films, Telly Savalas does a job that is excellent.

In the end. Lazenby was pulled in every direction and made bad decisions based on poor advice. The worst advice he got was to leave bond, because it was a dying fad. It must kill him to see that it's still going strong after 50 years.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

The OHMSS theme really is one of my favourite pieces of film music.

Casino Royale (2006)

I have to say, it was better than I expected. I saw it when it first came out but I only had the vaguest of recollections of it. Though I will say that after the first 20 minutes or so I was ready to write it off as a good action flick but not what I'd call a Bond film. Then it got better. It's interesting, Craig's Bond. Lots of anger there but there are still glimmers of the Bond we know.

I'm kind of dreading watching Quantum of Solace, it like Royale I barely recall but I do remember being bored to tears. But Skyfall is tomorrow night so looks like I'll have to bite the bullet.

The received wisdom is that Quantum Of Solace is awful.

I thought it was exactly the same as Casino Royale, good in places but not as gritty and realistic as it was made out to be (the Venetian palace bit in CR would have been right at home in Moonraker).

It was another case of a critic fad entering the collective consciousness of which I am not a part.

The Invisible Man

One of my favorite films ever. Still holds up today, Claude Rains is brilliant and the dark folksy black humor of James Whale is on full display. Points towards Bride of Frankenstein.

Quantum of Solace (2008)

Not bad. Not brilliant but it had a nice pace to it. Still the most ridiculous title.

Skyfall (2012)

Now that's what I'm talking about! Took them three films but they're finally regaining their stride.

I don't even see what wrong with the title Quantum Of Solace.

It just means the smallest possible amount of comfort after a terrible event, which sums up what Bond stands to gain from revenge, it also contains the name of the organisation he is fighting which compared to being called SP.E.C.T.R.E. is nowhere near as silly.

Octopussy is a very silly title for a Bond film but as a niche porn title it's got me interested.

Phenomena (1985)

Such an odd, disjointed film - it's like someone filmed a dream. I still liked it, though, and Jennifer Connelly was breathtakingly beautiful - it was fun just to look at her =P

6/10

The Blues Brothers (1980) - 6/10

The actual title of an Ian Fleming novel gets an automatic approval from me. ;)

Let's just say I'd rather read a travel guide called Octopussy and watch a Bond adventure called Thrilling Cities.

Yeah it's a bit of mystery even if he missed 2000 off the end of the title (because then it would have to be -6/10 at the very least).

I have met quite a few people who don't dig that film as much as I do though.
