putting this idea out there hoping someone has the time and resources

Original theatrical version preservation of Enter the Dragon (personally i can’t stand the additional 3 mins of footage due to the awful dubbing)

Video from the Blu-ray (i’m aware that there is a new edition upcoming but no details as of yet) and mono audio taken from the Laserdisc found here

Also the missing 3 seconds from the theatrical missing in the extended cut should be reinserted. What about the different Credits?

I would love to see a theatrical version of this. I hate how john little dubbed over bruce lee on the extra monk scene, i actually managed to get bruce lee's real voice for that scene but not sure if the quality is high enough.

Yes mypleen would be a good place to upload.

I read that the new transfer on blu-ray has some cropping and the colors are bad... the old version has jaggies, and there is a asian version but i dont know much about that transfer. I would really like to see the theatrical version done right.

I know this thread is for the theatrical version of ETD but for anyone interested here is bruce's original voice from the monk scene, there is some dialogue missing from the end of the scene and sorry it is not the best quality but it is the best i could get a hold of, it was ripped from the vynal '' bruce lee my way of kung fu ''

Hi sorry for this bump but yeah I am looking for the missing 3 seconds?

Anyone have this and the original theatrical mono audio?

The other missing seconds would be a bonus pls PM me if you can / don't mind doing a capture from the laser disc of the missing stuff.

I have hit a brick wall in finding those missing seconds on DVD and the only option is the LD release to my knowledge.

I want to assemble a DVD quality cut from various sources.

Thanks Kindly

From what I understand of the transfer it’s similar to the DVD versions, The colors are quite literally all over the place with thick Magenta, yellow/red and Cyan hues. Bad drops of video gain, gamma and value and also brightness and contrast issues.

Serious issue with Blue Gamma and contrast also is noteworthy.

I will be uploading the final parts of my edit which can be found here for streaming only at this time.

If you want to compare the 2 go ahead. I spent hundreds of hours color correcting and remixing the sound with a few alterations to scene orders and extra footage not in the theatrical version or the special edition. Fixed missing frames and sizing issues and the film slipping out of the scanner and other problems where the shot is full frame but not cropped. I fixed all the jump cuts and I also fixed some audio synch problems.

I may need to go over it briefly again if I decide to release it so it is for streaming only at this point. I might also upscale it. Not sure I am quite finished with it yet. I am letting the dust settle on it.

The project is now deleted but I have a cut that I can adjust from this point. The last parts will be up for streaming Sunday or Monday which means I will be deleting the parts that are currently up at this time.

And any version as of the 25th anniversary The spatial cleaning is so much everybody looks like plastic. So it’s not an option.

Ok thanks it’s no good as a color reference but most important of all I missed a music cue where Bruce get’s locked in the Room with the sliding doors.

Bruce voice missing when he punches the reflection of Han also.

There is probably more so I am evidently not done.

So just as well that I did not rush.

Theatrical cut at heart and the UK TV edit.

It is the same transfer as the DVD but better encoded on the DVD although some shots In the Diagostini source I used had even worse colors meaning that it was a partially corrected Raw Scan that was Prior to the Special edition and the Laserdisc release.

Would really appreciate a DVD-R of the theatrical cut if anybody has it in widescreen. I only have the old pre-cert VHS but it’s pan and scan. Not the best way to view Enter the Dragon.

Good news! Now all we need is a theatrical preservation of Game of Death. The original Hong Kong version is only available on VHS.

On the contrary:

I believe there was an exclusive scene only available on the VHS version. I think bruce dresses up as an old man or into the yellow biker gear… I cant quite remember but I know it’s only available in a VHS version. I will try and find the clip.

The Hong Kong version available on HK DVD and Japanese bluray doesn’t include the scene. I dont own the shout factory Hong Kong version so I don’t know if that scene is included.

The so-called “Hong Kong version” available on DVD and Blu-ray is actually the Singapore/Malaysia version. It was illegal in those countries to show a vigilante in film unless they were punished by the law, so an alternative ending was shot showing Billy Lo get arrested in order to release it in those countries. In Hong Kong, a different version was shown with a happy ending showing Billy and his girlfriend leave on a boat. It also contained a sequence that was removed from other prints showing Billy Lo change into the yellow jumpsuit earlier on in the film to fight Ji Han Jae. I can confirm that this was the first version ever shown on cinemas and is therefore the original version of the film. I have a book from Hong Kong with a review of this version, as well as a copy of a Hong Kong VHS that was released there by Virgin Media. It contains this version, which is dubbed into Cantonese with English subtitles (because it was a British colony at the time and films often had English subs).
When Game of Death was finally released on DVD in Hong Kong, they used a print that was designed for audiences in Singapore and Malaysia. It was missing the sequence in the middle and the entire fight with Ji Han Jae. It also contained the arrest ending, not the original one showing Billy leave on the boat. It was then exported and incorrectly referred to as “the Hong Kong version” only because the universe dvd label is based in Hong Kong. Unfortunately many fans are not aware and even Shout Factory didn’t bother to do their research when they supplied a remastered print of the Singapore print and claimed it was the version shown in Hong Kong.
The real Hong Kong version matters because it is the original version of the film and it has yet to receive a release in its original aspect ratio.

But it’s another missed opportunity to get everything in there, e.g. extended cut of Way of the Dragon and the original cut of Game of Death. I don’t mind it being the last box set as long as we get an individual release of Game of Death in the future with all versions and hopefully more Big Boss footage shows up someday.

Newbie here, I just got the bluray with both the theatrical version and the special edition and am not sure which one I should watch. Is the special edition only different in the 3 additional minutes that got added or are there other differences? If I have never seen the film before, should I go with the theatrical or special edition?

The special edition also has an extended scene in the mirror room scene and many other audio changes throughout the film like in the guillotine scene . I think you should definitely watch the theatrical version.

What’s the difference between the extended cut of Way of The Dragon and the theatrical cut? I didn’t know that there was an extended cut.
