Emanswfan's Prequel Trilogy (Ep II Opening Clips Now Available)

 (Edited)

Well, after a long time, I've decided to start work on individual edits of the prequels.  My goal is this is create really good versions of the films without having to butcher the films to the point of making it not Star Wars length like previous edits have done.  I will acheive this using new music, drastic rearragement, and some new vfx to acheive certain edits.

Right now I am in the rough stages of my version of Episode II: Defenders Of Peace. My goals are very similar to other edits, apart from:

  • More Deleted Scenes added (hugely improved HD quality upon other edits)
  • Less cut (only bad dialogue and stupity cut)
  • New arragement (Opening with Geonois, etc.)
  • Lots of new music from Clone Wars, The Old Republic, etc.

Episode II Rough Overview:

The film starts directly with Anakin and Padme going to save Obi-Wan (preview to come soon).  I've edited this scene to feel like an opening (myseterious, no talking).  I delete the entire Droid Factory sequence (because of the stupidity and that it would make the new opening not feel like an opening) and replace it with the two deleted scenes, Padme swaying Dooku and Anakin and Padme on trial.  I delete there love but leave a lighthearted friendship they've had developing between TPM and ATOC, which grows naturally into their love.  The arena scene ends with yoda and the rest of the jedi saving them.  The "clones" are shown, however in this version the clone armor is just Republic armor the clones will just put on since they work for the Republic.  What then follows is a hugely revised version of what used to be the opening.  Padme has been in danger for a while and the new attempt is the final reason to convince them to go to Naboo.  The clone army has been being made by the order of the Jedi council for years, waiting for it to be approved.  Obi-Wan goes to check on the clones and discovers the assasin was Jango Fett and the basis for the clones.  The dark side had clouded the jedi from knowing this.  The narrative for the most part plays out the same, but when Obi finds out they need more help to defeat the new order of battle droids, they finally succeed in getting the clones and set up for attack with the others.  The movie ends the same for the most part.

I'm probably forgetting some details, so what I just said might sound weird.  But that's pretty much it.  Lots of colour correction and rescoring will be done to support the new narrative.  And believe me, the story arcs much better than the original version.

Very excited to hear about this.  Not sure what to do about Kamino, as you requested at FE.org.  I love radical PT edits, so best of luck with this :)

Most likely I'll have to create something in 3DS Max, but I'll still have to make sure the new structure works well enough.

Obi-Jango Fight Scene: https://vimeo.com/52621993 (new soundtrack only.  cues still being modified.  movie audio still being processed)

I don't believe that the fireplace-scene can be saved with any editing. It's horrible in every way and the worst scene in AOtC, maybe in the whole PT. I squirm in shared sense of shame every time I see it.

I think that thing is just best cutted. AOTC is the longest of the films and if you are incorporating deleted scenes you still have plenty of running time. Also the info in that scene is somewhat communicated in other scenes so it's not irreplaceable.

Have fun with the edit!

Yes, the fireplace scene was the worst scene in ATOC, but in addition to the dialogue cut, I have moved the scene earlier to their arrival.  Almost every scene between the two have been shifted around to create a more natural romance, one that progesses from simple looks and flurting to kissing and implied sleeping together.  Anakin and Padme eating dinner probably won't even show right before the fireplace scene.

I understand many people perfer not to have the scene, however this scene and the scene where Anakin and Padme first meet again, both have ironic lines: "...you'll always be that little boy on tatooine" and "It would destroy us".  They both humor and foresight respectively.

it's really too bad there weren't scenes with them acting like Han and Leia.

You're forgetting the best line:

Anakin: I can't breathe.

Epic Vader foreshadowing.

Sure, totally, haha.

Atleast the line isn't about being haunted by a kiss anymore.  Now, it's just because of his "emotional attachment to her".

I finsihed an early draft of the kamino opening shot.  It's surprisingly easy to create an identical copy of the Kamino planet shown in the movie.  Another reason why the PT effects are so lazy.

I would love to see it, if you're willing to share :)

Yes, I will soon.  I'm just making sure the lighting, glow, spin, etc. is just right.

Open on Kamino? Whatttt....how will that work with the narrative?

It will be explained in the new crawl that the jedi council secretly has sought out a new srmy of clones for the republic.  There are drastic narrative changes with how the assasination plot is handled.  The "border dispute" line Mace Windu comments on is used as a cover for Obi-Wan.  He later returns to Kamino after discovering Jango is behind the assasination attempt on Padme.  Don't worry, I've outlined the whole thing.

It's a very pretty planet. I assume there will be a spaceship? And movement?

Well, I plan to integrate the shot of Obi-Wan arriving.  The uploaded video demonstrates the parts I had created and I will then rotoscope in.

It's less silly but it's still stupid.

It's like Dooku is saying, "Clearly our God like powers aren't going to settle this so lets smack each other with sticks".

It's the wrong way around.

He should say, "Clearly this won''t be settled by our skills with a lightsaber but with our knowledge of the Force".

Yoda is a Jedi Master, he doesn't need a lightsaber Dooku knows this and doesn't humiliate himself by waving a glow stick at him.

I would cut the saber action and just have Dooku throw the roof at him only to have Yoda deflect it with ease.

The dynamic should be the Knight and his squire get kicked in by the Count and then Yoda scares Dooku into a retreat by using the collapsing pillar as an escape plan.

I see what you're saying, and in that respect it might not be kept.  However, I don't see it as such a serious problem in the film.

Update: My opening on Kamino idea may be scratched for an even more radical one: opening on Geonosis with the arena scene.  I'm almost done figuring out how the narrative will work and I can say my version will be nearly unrecognizable from a plot perspective.

I am very very interested in this edit now.
Super radical, man.

I wanna see how this will work!

Thanks.  The purpose in starting the film with Geonosis accomplishes many things better: Anakin and Obi as good friends, Anakin and Padme's growing, yet dangerous relationship, Dooku as the bad guy, and a more interesting way to start off the movie.  Obi will still go to Kamino as "Yoda has taken the remaining few from the volunteer army to save Obi, Anakin and Padme".  There is still the assasination plot, but it is explained in the crawl Padme has been danger for a while now.  The film will reroute itself to the scenes after the arena to finish off the movie, when it is discovered that Dooku/ Fett was behind it all.  The new structure really helps the film, letting me give new context for scenes that would otherwise be cut for certain issues.  Right now the goal film length is a little under 2 hours.

Sounds interesting.  I love this idea of new structure.

I haven't seen many PT edits recently (you can get a bit of fatigue after a while) but has anyone tried flipping Dooku's line around like that and cutting straight to him throwing the room at Yoda?

Anyone out there know?

Dude, can you like, make a timeline of the entire film so I can see exactly what you're talking about? Because what you're describing sounds freaking awesome.
