But this is Disney right.  They did not exactly handle Edgar Rice Burroughs or CS Lewis works in a good way.

They did not mess up the Avengers, but i count that a minor miracle and mostly because of Whedon.

But with their real franchise being Marvel projects like Avengers 2 where does star wars fit in?

Disney are also known for revision and rewriting history and altering their films. In some cases for good reasons like removing racism, in others just idiocy and political correctness.

On the other hand they give Pixar a lot of creative leeway, and respect the films of studio ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki.  They did not get in the way of Whedon on Avengers or  Stanton on John Carter.  But they probably should have on John Carter.

Maybe Lucas has a contract with them that allows him to choose a director or writer, or have ultimate say in things. If not why sell Lucasfilm.  As far as i know they were not in financial trouble like after Lucas divorce or Howard the Duck which is probably why those star wars prequels were made.

More star wars films really is not a concern unless it further buries the oot.

As it is i only watch star wars, empire and Jedi.  And the Indiana Jones trilogy there is no new star wars trilogy or Indy 4.

So even if these 3 new movies are utter shit i still have six good movies in the indiana jones and star wars trilogies  Six good movies and seven ones that are shit is not a bad ratio.
