Ultimately Lucas doesn't have to understand good drama.

If you take the basic themes character strikes and motifs of the PT you could still have made an exciting trilogy of films that fed into (not just parasitic on) the OT.

It needed a better writer, a better director and a better editor.

Without Lucas writing, editing and directing whatever he has in his treatment could still be manipulated into a great trilogy of Star Wars films.

If the new people are as bad as Lucas the ST will add no more pain to an already mangled series.

I don't see Zahn's books working as a film trilogy.

It's too long, the actors are too old and they shouldn't be changed and I've read it.

I want something new with Mark and Carrie playing the same characters only older.

If they are smart the writers will write the piece so it doesn't tread on the toes of EU fans but personally I don't mind if they do that much as long as the story is good.
